CHELSEA spokesman: Fernando TORRES story is 'total nonsense'

Last night, the Daily Mail ran a story claiming that former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres would be available in the January transfer window at a knock-down price. Rather unsurprisingly, Chelsea have publicly refuted the story.

A spokesman for the Stamford Bridge club blasted the false speculation:

"The story is total nonsense. Fernando is in the long-term plans at Chelsea"

This denial comes on the same day that Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola felt compelled to set the record straight about 'lies" being told about David Villa's future.

Torres may not be for sale but Liverpool fans would love to see him back at Anfield. In a poll on this site a couple of weeks ago, 72% of fans who took part voted for El Nino's return.

  3. He's not a traitor. He just made a mistake. You would be very happy if he came back.  We would have over 30 goals (instead of 18) if he were playing next to Suarez. Both would have around 10-12 goals at this point and they would have made a bunch more for others.

  5. If he had stayed he could of broke the 100 goal barrier with the chances that have been created since he left!

  6. torres is not and will never be the player he once was i would much rather an up and coming striker like gaston ramires who would gel fantastically with suarez and also be loyal

  7. Torres CAN be the player he was.  He needs to wear a red shirt to do it.  He would gel perfectly with Suarez.

  9. K.D. does not like him at all. The best option for Torres is to follow Rafa after Rafa gets a job.

  11. Sad to say but for 20m we can get a better, hungrier forward than Fernando...

Nothing to do with him being a traitor, he just has the look of a man who has nothing left to prove.

For me Jovetic is what we need...

  13. He'd need to go some to sway the faith of the less fickle Kop.

Also, in answer to the guy who said about selling the "Crap" we bought. I agree with Downing. Worse than Biscan, although Jordan has shown promise, and let's remember he's only 20 (21?). Carroll has his moments. If he weren't a £35m purchase I'd of let him go on loan elsewhere to gain his bearings, as many pundits say; "He's got the ability to be England's Leading Forward for the next 10 years". Lastly, Adam has been our most influential player this year. He's created more than anyone else, and chipped in with 2 goals. As long as he has a playe like Lucas/Stevie beside him, his playing style could match up to another long ball genius we used to have in our ranks.

I wouldn't spend more than £22m on Fernando, and if he did come back, I'd expect him to bring the bang back with him.

  14. If we can take a 35 million risk on Carroll then 22 mill for Torres is not a bad judgement. I know he can bring back the goals. He's the type of player that needs to be important to the team, and at Chelsea he is in the shadow. Suarez will easily compliment him in attack. If Bellamy and Rodriguez can fit in the first 11 then I know Torres can too. If he did come back and started banging in goals who would complain?? I mean the only reason people feel betrayed is because of the goals he scored, would people be equally upset if a player like Joe Cole said he wanted to leave??  No because he wasn't even half the player Torres was. Karma to those who want to just pour misery on the man who has regretted everyday that he had signed the blue contract.

  16. the dude will never return. he burned all his bridges to join a club where he could go the "next level". Good on ya son, hows the next level feel? warm, wooden, flat and smells of oranges at half time. On the plus side, him and kalou might really hit it off.as much as i would love to see him back, id rather cut of my nose one this one

  17. ... and Suarez only has 5 goals.  Jordi Gomez, a midfielder for Wigan just scored his 4th.  Sturridge has 8.  Grant Holt of Norwich has 9. Suarez is fun to watch, but he misses many many chances that Torres would have put away.  Together they would be great.  Strikers need confidence.  Torres has had his stripped by a team that does not play to his strengths and by himself for making a very poor decision in leaving Liverpool.
