Breaking news: Eto'o handed incredible 15-game BAN...

Luis Suarez yesterday escaped what could be a hefty ban after the FA delayed its decision on his race-row case, but one other high-profile striker was not so lucky.

About six hours after Suarez's case was adjourned for the day, the Cameroon FA banned skipper Samuel Eto'o for 15 games for allegedly playing a part in persuading his team mates not to travel to Algeria for a friendly last month.

The Cameroon football federation said on its website:

"Samuel Eto'o, in his role as captain, incited his team mates to refuse to travel to Algeria.

"The disciplinary council therefore decides that he is suspended for 15 matches from the men's senior national team."

That is an incredibly harsh ban on the reigning African Footballer of the Year, and one that will almost certainly spell the end of Eto'o's international career.

Can you imagine Suarez getting a 15 game ban? #Liverpool struggling for sixth place

Eto'o has been regularly linked with Liverpool over the last few years (probably false speculation), and he recently compared Liverpool fans to Anzhi fans:

"Owing to our supporters we never feel lonely in away matches. They're like Liverpool fans with their famous hymn, 'You'll Never Walk Alone'."

I wonder how Eto'o would've got on an Anfield...?

If Suarez was *fairly* found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of racist intent towards Patrice Evra then I personally wouldn't have any problems with him receiving a similarly harsh ban. Racism in football needs to be stamped out, and the harshest punishments must be imposed on offenders.

I genuinely don't believe Suarez is guilty though, but we'll see what the supposedly 'independent' panel has to say on Tuesday.

  1. attempt to titillate readers, into believing the ban was for Suarez by just reading the headline. #poor

  3. r u a man u fan in disguise. Why would he receive a 15 match ban? We all know Patrica Evra's word can't be trusted. People suggesting a 15 match ban make people fell this would be ok. What did suarez actually do. Do you think Kenny Dalglish would support him 100% if he had done absolutely anything wrong? The answer to that is an emphatic NO. If you have nothing proper to say on the subject, don't bother printing sensational headlines. The maximum ban I believe Suarez could get would be 2 matches. As this issue is down to different cultures not outright racism.

  4. it will be interesting what surez actually gets and how the FA then target John Terry. I still do feel that this is a ream headache for the FA as they still have to deal with terry who they would want to protect as they dont want the captain of england to be labelled a racist.

  5. you'd swear by your headline your article was something remotely to do with luis suarez...

  6. No, you as a reader bring that expectation to the headline. A striker getting a 15 game ban is a serious story.

  8. I've read an article in Uruguayan paper where they say that why the decision on Suarez takes the FA so long is because they want to interview Mariner about Evra's alleged "you're only booking me because I am black" and what he said to Suarez after his friendly pat on his head:  "don't touch me you, sudaca!" (sudaca = derogatory for south american), to which Suarez answered: por que, negro?
I sense they both are going to get a few matches ban. Luis and Patrice.

  9. gud point thr bob, KK wud'nt risk jeopardising the club's name for the wrong... nd moreover, be dead sure even tho KK has controlled his words so far, he'll sure go bizzark if Terry is offered the safe route... nd rightly so !
The FA screwheads may hav already started preparing Terry a clean chit, bringing out new points from their imaginary rulebook...!

  13. JK it seems you stand accused for an earlier article if you follow this link

I stated my opinion and hopefully it doesn't get deleted from there.

  14. the more i read about this story the more evra comes across as a finley balanced individual, having a chip on both shoulders!!!

  15. Hi Jon - thanks for that link, and thanks for you comment on the thread. The writer of that diatribe is entitled to his opinion, but he just makes himself look silly; he clearly doesn't understand the point of my earlier article. It really has nothing to do with Suarez or Denis Smith; it's about the FA's incompetence in putting together a panel that could be left open to accusations of bias.

Whether he or anyone else wants to accept it, Denis Smith has close links to Ferguson Snr and Jnr, and objectively speaking, it means the panel is not as independent as it should be.

  16. Im so done with this site now and its ridiculous headlines

  17. JK, that is a misleading headline and you know it is. I dare you take a poll on this. Wake up JK, stop your standards falling any further. Let's see if you are democratic enough to publish this comment?

  18. Please answer these questionsL

    1. Is Suarez's name mentioned in the headline?

    2. Is Evra's name mentioned in the headline?

    3. Are Liverpool, Man United or the FA mentioned in the headline?

    4. Is there anything in the headline at all directly linked to *anything* to do with the Suarez-Evra race row?

    5. Is a striker receiving a 15 game ban newsworthy?

    6. Am I the only site that has published that story?

With respect, it's not me who needs to wake up, it's you. This story is totally legitimate; the headline is not misleading - the Suarez connection is something *you* are projecting onto the headline.

  19. If Dalglish knew Suarez was guilty, Suarez would have been suspended 9 weeks ago (or sacked). Dalglish wouldn't tolerate racism and would have seen to it that Suarez never played for Liverpool again.
In John Terry's case. It's out of the F.A.'s hands, because the Police are taking action. If Terry is found guilty, he will most likely serve a sentence - more severe than a 15 game ban, don't you think?

  20. The headline is purposefully misleading and you know it.

You're trying to generate hits from the Suarez/Evra affair and little else.

  22. do you have any control over the adverts on your site? Tickets for Manure v Blackburn? How disappointing Jamie.
One of your earlier articles was about other web-sites manufacturing transfer storie to entice fans to access their sites, pretty similar to what you've done. There is an expectation that your site has news updates on LFC, or else opinioated discussions on current LFC matters, and I appreciate that you have done general footballing articles in the past, but you can do better than this, Jamie lad

  23. Hi Roadender - Man United ads are blocked but every now and again one slips through. There's nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

Re manufacturing stories - the difference between this and the other sites to which you prefer is that this story is 100% *true*.

  24. You could have made the headline clear from the strt as Eto is news worthy (like Suarez) How about, Samuel Eto gets 15 match ban.

  25. Jamie K you fooled me. I really thought it was about the current news and expected to read about Louis.  I like the comment that Evra is a "finely balanced individual." I agree, he does seem to have a chip on both shoulders, as well as the middle of his back.

  26. Whats really disappointing Jamie is that a lot of your material is interesting and worthy of reading and you are spoiling it with these deceptive headlines. You know what you are doing with the misleading headlines and you don't actually need to keep fooling people if you write good quality material. Just look at the constant reaction by readers on your site and your endless comments justifying that what you are doing is innocent.

Plus, you keep deleting peoples comments when they challenge you on it, its hardly fair.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You cannot deny you were looking for hits though with that headline. Utter bait.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jaimie - please stop with the protests of innocence that your headline was not deliberatley used to dupe anxious liverpool fans into thinking that this article in some way bore relevance to the Saurez case.
You know exactly what you have done, by leading with "striker" and not "Eto'o" you knew that the amount of hits on an ignominious piece of plagarism would be increased exponentially - lets face it not one of teh commentors here would have bothered reading if they had not thought this was regarding our Luis.  Perhaps this type of hack trickery will earn you a regular column in the Sun, as thats where you belong.
