REVEALED: Jamie Carragher's three favourite players...

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has played with or against some of the greatest players ever to grace the modern game, but who are best players he's ever faced?

In an interview on TalkSport earlier today, Carra revealed the best player he's ever played against:

"The best player I ever played against is Thierry Henry. He was something else; I've played against Rooney and Ronaldo and players like that but I think he was the best player ever to play in the Premier League"

What about Liverpool players?

"The best player I've ever played with is a tie between Steven Gerrard and John Barnes".

Great choices there, but for me, in terms of pure skill, technical ability and excitement, John Barnes was better than both Henry and Gerrard.

  4. Why should there be a joke on Lucas always? The guy has been doing a good job for a while now.
I am glad Carra didn't say Owen... he knew it wouldn't go well with the fans.

  5. Can name alot more who are worse than Lucas ..he's just an easy target ...he cost 5million and yet performs better than Downing Henderson and Carroll aswell as Adam.

  6.   Between gerrard and Barnes it must be Gerrard.Great players perform consistently at a very high level and Gerrard always performs at a high level fitness permitting.Tommy Docherty once said about John Barnes he is a great player when the sun is on his back.I remember Barnes in the winter months not fancying games at all whereas gerrard would play unbelievably well whatever the weather. In todays market knowing what both players have achieved if they were both reincarnated and brought forward to 19 and both made available on the transfer market gerrard would be twice the value of barnes.

  7. Mal341 you're at it again. Agree re the Lucas comment - look at his stats for the weekend - an unsung hero. Prone to the odd lapse but has come on leaps and bounds. But you've veered into unconstructive critcism of people who have only been at the club 10mins - GIVE THEM A CHANCE. Dalglish critcism at the weekend, now this - Rome wasn't built in a day. This season will be transistional. It must be great to live in your perfect world! @ Jaimie - comparison of Gerrard and Barnes is wrong IMO - apples and pears. Different era and different players for me. Barnes was full of tricks and could change a game with a flash of genius. Gerrard is a more of an all round player who can roll his sleeves up, get stuck in tackle and score / setup great goals.

  8. Tommy Docherty? Could of found someone better then an EXMAN UNITED manager to slag off one the greats, seeing that our winter lasts from November to nearly March must of been plenty of SUNNY days to help Barnes and Liverpool to win the League twice!

  9. Barnes edges it for me. Gerrard a close second. Barnes started out as winger. Remember he scored more than 20 in a few seasons. After Achilles injury he played central midfield. Gerrard has occupied a number of roles and he has that drive. But Barnes had the touch and scored the best ever England goal - against Brazil.
