18 Sept 2011

Well done, Kenny. We may have lost, but the long-suppressed spirit of LFC is shining brightly...

After last week's defeat at Stoke, Kenny Dalglish indirectly blamed the referee for Liverpool's failure to win the game. Today, after some harsh refereeing decisions during the 4-0 loss at Spurs, the opportunity was there to pass the buck again for the club's failings on the pitch. Thankfully, King Kenny reverted to the time-honoured Liverpool tradition of accepting defeat gracefully, with post-match comments that are a credit to the man, and a perfect example of how the 'Liverpool Way' of doing things is being restored under under his leadership.

Humbleness in victory; Grace in defeat - it's one of those principles that I love about Liverpool FC, and it's something that has (arguably) fallen by the wayside a little over the last ten years.

When I was growing up, I was always inspired by how magnanimous and respectful Liverpool managers and players were in defeat, even when the loss was embarrassing (like today's drubbing at Spurs), or particularly painful (like 1989 title decider defeat to Arsenal in 1989).

Unlike certain other teams, Liverpool FC is not generally a sore loser, and whether it's applauding the opposition at Anfield, or acknowledging the truth in post-match comments, the club and its fans will always give credit where credit is due.

This kind of attitude is a fundamental part of the magic that sets Liverpool apart from most other clubs, and I was pleased to see King Kenny reinforce this aspect of the Liverpool philosophy by praising Spurs for their well-deserved victory:

"We also want to be respectful to Tottenham, who I think...started really well and played really well".

When questioned about refereeing decisions, Dalglish added:

"It's best left unsaid because whatever happens then takes away from a great performance from Tottenham. It would be totally unfair on Harry [Redknapp] and the performance his team put on today as well so we’ll be respectful to Tottenham. We know that they played really well and we know that we can do a lot better than that".

There's no doubt that this defeat will hurt Dalglish more than most, and it's to his credit that he didn't take the (easy) Wenger/Ferguson route and classlessly criticise the referee and/or make excuses for the dismal manner of the loss.

Irrespective of refereeing decisions, Spurs outplayed Liverpool today from the first minute, and thoroughly deserved the victory. There are clearly many issues for Dalglish to resolve, but they won't be resolved properly with a negative victim-mentality hanging over the club.

Liverpool lost badly, and it's undoubtedly a horrible day for the club and the fans. However, amid the depression of the day, the long-suppressed spirit of the club is shining strongly through Dalglish, and that's good enough for me.

  2. What a respectful article as well! Liverpool would most certanly have lost today even if they had been 11 or even 12:)

  3. I'm a Spurs supporter, so I'm obviously happy with the result. I always like to hear the comments by the opposition manager, & I totally agree with you, the likes of Daglish is the difference between Liverpool & other so called top managers, a true gentleman. A credit to football & Liverpool alike.
Today you were out played, but I still think we'll be fighting you for fourth play, come the end of the season.

  4. we didnt stand a chance the ref made sure of that

  5. Can't remember when we won last time at White Hart Lane but I think with 11 vs 11, there's always a chance. But with 10 v 11, it was game over, 9 v 11 was like watching Scooby Doo vs Giant Octopus

  6. by the way, I'd like to add that Spurs today would have given anyone a game

  7. I'm confused. What exactly did the ref do wrong? liverpool were down to 9 because they couldn't contain Spurs. Resorted to filth as desperation to stop them. And then of course Suarez, diving and lying.

Could anyone tell me what it is the ref got wrong? as i must have missed it

  8. Hmmmm: 4 fairly straightforward yellow cards there, and Spurs were pretty superior in every department, though Friedel didn't do a lot!

  9. As a Liverpool supporter Spurs were outstanding on the day. Liverpool have a lot of soul searching to do if they want to play in the Champions league next season

  10. No, you're right - the refereeing decisions were correct, and not the reason for the defeat.  The Ref was too card-happy too early on though - he could've let a few things go to aid the flow of the game; he chose to go the other way though, with every infringement harshly penalised from the word go.

  11. Spurs were great today. Anyone with half a footy brain could see that.

After Skrtel got his marching orders, game was over.

Enjoy. We'll repay the favour at Anfield ;)

  12. the decision to fire rafa is lookin evermore silly, sorry to say this but kenny is not the man to take this club forward his signing have been average at best, henderson, adam, downing and caroll have jus been a waste of money worst still he has shipped out aqua and merl, i dont think we are making fourth, am sure he will step down by himself.... just who will take the hot seat then, Rafa???

  13. Im a Red & the ref did nothing wrong 2 clear sendings off. Well played Spurs we were rank rotten.... Sometimes you have to admit the truth like Kenny has Wenger & Ferguson should take note.

  15. Dalglish knows his stuff and today he lost players because spurs were unstopable and some of his lads lost their composure when they could'nt cope with the opposition.

That happens in football and while managers like wenger make excuses and deflect the focus from his "young" players, Dalglish is a man who will make his new team learn from that experience and learn from their mistakes.

  16. For the fan who said they would repay the favour yuo wont with them players. Downing or bale = bale your entire midfield or modric & parker = parker & modric. Ledley king or your entire back four = ledley king. Adebeyour and defoe or the geordie hipped and suarez (cry baby) again not contest. Bring it on i say can we play you every week. Three wins against liverpool on the bounce!

    ReplyDelete
  17. kenny dalglish should resign he is a disgrace to liverpool fc his summer signings are not the best of signings how can you go and buy downing whilst juan mata is available is it because he wants to build the team around english players and that will not help the team

  18. For the record, i probably am the only person who despises 'King Kenny'..I'm a spurs fan and have nothng but respect for LFC, but for a man with his stature at the club, to sit back and watch Roy Hodgson's time turn into a nightmare when he could have stepped in and calmed the situation/rallied the troops and not, for me is just selfish. He let roy and the team suffer just waiting to take the hotseat himself. I hope liverpool fail only for the reason that kenny gets hwhat he deserves.

  19. suarez got his yellow when he applauded the ref for not sending adebayour of for piggy backing henderson

  21. I think Spurs where the better team today and deserved their win today! However, it was only 1-0 until we went down to 9 men!

The only thing that bothered me about the ref was he never engaged in conversation with any of the Liverpool players at any point! He just brandished cards to the players at an alarming rate! And this in spite of what Dalglish said about referees last week. This was very worrying and if the theme continues over the next few games then surely the conspiracy question needs to be asked again.

One more  point! The respect the referee campaign is being carried out commendably by Liverpool at the moment! No surrounding the ref, no arguing and no slating them in the press. However, it's not working! It's a two way street and the refs are treating us as a soft touch.

    It's open season!

  23. stop being naive , u r the reason y liverpool is what it is today~ blind faith, the signing are poor and we all know that we just dont want to admit it, he seems to be favouring players from the UK dropping kuyt and shipping out true quality aqua, am sure things wont be as bad as when roy was in charge, bt will not making 4th and u know that deep down, am tired this naivety we liverpool supporters have this what has prevented us from taking a stand and pushing the board to do its utmost but we always allow it or the manager to trick us into believing we r good, give me a break , and i think know enough about soccer to know u know nothing bout it

  24. Kenny's comments were magnanimous and accurate....what a pity that the rednose couldn't take a leaf out of his book.....our manager, Redknapp, speaks in the same way most of the time.....wish the two of those guys were vying for top slot in the Prem....our children would get much better role models!

  25. Guest, Grow up. You've been well beaten today by a better team end of, don't try blame the ref or any decisions.

  28. Respect to KK & the majority of Liverpool fans here. To exhibit honesty, give praise and acknowledgement in the face of defeat, in a game as emotional as football, is indeed an outstanding attribute - I hope LFC are challenging strongly for top 4 at the end of the season. Well done Spurs - I was not there today, but by all accounts, you played a great game.

Cock kenny all but blamed the referee without actually coming out and saying it directly.  If he was really graceful in defeat he would have conceded that his players were correctly sent off for bad challenges and one should have been carded for diving and that he would have a word with because liverpool players don't do that sort of thing.  But he didn't do that did he? Instead he was mealy  mouthed, begrudging and inarticulate!  Blimey the press are always having a pop at Capello for not learning how to speak English.....

  37. What have British buys or British players got to do with it????

Alex Fergusons major summer buys this season! Ashley young (English), Phil Jones (English), DeGaey (Spanish) plus promoted  Cleverly (English) and Welbeck (English) from the reserves.  Look at the united squad! Full of British players. How many quality British players did Liverpool have before Dalglish took over? Answer 3; Gerrard, Caragher and Johnson. Dalglish  has either bought or promoted British players into a squad lacking BRITISH quality.

You may know about SOCCER but living 5 miles away from Anfield I know about FOOTBALL!!! Nobody calls it soccer who is in or from BRITAIN!!! I think all the Brits on here will agree on that one.

  41. Sunburnfaces, your spelling is 'rediculous'. Think you'll find it's spelt 'ridiculous'. A man who loves football, never truly removes himself from it. He'd have been doing the same managerial crap we do down the pub every weekend... Except he was and now is a manager once more and would of actually knew what he was on about. Think it before you speak! How do you know Kenny didn't have a file every year of all the formations and tactics he would have used, with who playing, what they were doing, when they'd do it, where they'd be doing it and why the tactics were being used, and who they would be used against. You're also forgetting he was an ambassador to the club and was close to all the action, who better to take over and manage than the person who was already there, who just happened to be a legend on and off the field. Who better than to spur on the players. Nobody at the club would want them to win more than that man, so why doubt him, especially when he'd give everything he has to the cause. Start getting behind the team, isn't that why the word 'supporter' is used for fans?

The ref was outstanding today and tbh spurs normally get bad luck in decisions but today the ref got everything right, maybe a straight red for skrtel if im being picky.
Be gracious like your manager, that was football played the right way today and there was nothing you could do as spurs are superior and more dynamic and much better in possesion.

  49. Sorry can't agree on the "great match" thingy. A "A Great Match" is a match that has drama until that last minute, hard but fair tackles, nice passing, beautiful goals and a final result that's some something like 3-2 with the last goal scored in the 89:th minute. That's a great match in my humble opinion. Not this one though. One team thrashing the other like there's no stopping to it is not a great match.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not to forget the match against Shitty, and it was even on spurs home turf. So it's easy to laugh at another's demise and to forget your own past ones.

  51. Spurs beat us by getting at us early and overpowering our midfield, it was clear to see that Skirtel was never going to cope with Bale and it was easy to see the ball heading that way at every opportunity, the 2 lads got sent off and that was the correct decision. we actually did ok once we settled even though we were down to 10. those would are using this result to start hanging the team and calling for Kenny's head are true muppets

Kenny has stated that Spurs were the better team and it was not the ref's fault, he has also stated that the team were not good today and need to raise the game. learn from the mistakes use them to motivate and move forward, but do not let one game ruin the season by letting it stay in the minds and cause doubt,

  52. I'm sorry? What was he supposed to do? Pick Roy's team for him? He put out plenty of supportive words for hodgson. Hodgson wasn't good enough and nobody could save him. No matter what excuses the media try and concoct for their golden boy Kenny Dalglish is not one

  53. Dalglish is a legend and he knows how to make us great. he beat all the top managers to sign Carroll at a bargain price of 35million Henderson at 16million downing at 18million and they will come good in about 5years ...don't worry in kenny we trust and kenny can do nothing wrong

  54. KD has spent £130m on average British unproven unfit players. He along with Gerrard and Carragher (who wanted a new contract at the time but for the good of the club Rafa refused him)decided to oust Rafa from the managers job.Carragher got his contract,Dalglish ended up getting his prize job and Gerrard got his best mate as manager. No wonder Mascherrano and Torres bolted as soon as Rafa left, all the world class players only signed for LFC because of Rafa. Now look, what have you all done. The so called fans who kept calling for the head of Rafa have now seen a once great club nosedive into oblivion,so the people who wanted Rafa out and Dalglish in,YOU ARe TO BLAME FOR LFCs DEMISE.Thats something to tell your grandkids about in years to come, you must all be very proud.

  57. Fair enough comments from King Kenny for Tottenham, but only that... His first eleven was wrong again: Strong but slow Skrtel against Gareth "hurricane" Bale (Bale could destroy Flanagan as well, but maybe is better for a 18 years old right back have a very hard lesson, than a 26 years old centre back try to learn a new, unfamiliar position), with no Dirk Kuyt's "never say die" support on the right wing (I don't have something against Henderson, but the lad must run before learn to walk because Dalglish ask him to do it right here and right now). Charlie Adam the "anti Alonso"? My god what a joke!!! Lucas must run for two because Adam is heavy and lazy! FACT!!! Carragher is playing no matter what... Benitez could crucified probably for less... OK we must be patient with the whole project, it's a new team anyway, but Kenny must learn from his mistakes (who are already enough). Yes to patience, no to immunity. YNWA

  58. Dude, I watched the game and the replays over and over again. Coates never got the ball, are you blind. The only decision i think the ref got wrong was Charlie Adams 1st yellow. imo it was never a yellow. Pulling a player down gets a caution, especially when they are not in a goal scoring position. Ref got that wrong and his 2nd, which in all honesty from his perspective UNLUCKY, saw him walk off the field.
Outplayed by Spurs, YES, but refereeing consistency is the issue.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Im sorry but i also think the reasoning behind this loss was managerial selection. Shocking choice to put Skrtel at right back when he a 6ft2 center back with only 3 games experience on the right.

Kenny has known for the past week that Johnson and Kelly were out, so the 1st thing he should have done was to select and accurately prepare someone to maintain Bale. We all know Bale is pace and pace and pace, so a quick right back would have helped. In this situation, Flanno. But the manager didn't and the crucial goals that killed us off came from the left. I'm not calling for Kenny's head, i'm just saying he got it wrong and that his decisions should have been analysed rather than saying, "oh, Spurs were just the better team on the night"...

    ReplyDelete
  60. the owners are willing to spend the money what we need is a manager and some mid fielders that can distrivute the ball not this kind of play we had been showing till now. lost against stoke and today they got killed 4 nill,

  61. Totally agree - dont blame anyone else the management team was completely at fault for team selection which was THE REASON we were smashed.
Skrtel at right back against Bale?? im sure a 10 yr old could have told you who would win that one and hence who would win the game.
    What was Dalglish thinking??
You dont play a slow, big centre half at right back against THE FASTEST LEFT WINGER IN THE LEAGUE!!
I am sure virtually everyone Liverpool fan could have told him this, yet the manager was totally blind, naive , foolish or just plain stupid to make this completely wrong team selection.
Am i surprised Skrtel was completely outpaced and that he had to resort to fouling Bali in order to stop him, and that he would eventually be sent off? NO!!
Am i surprised that wave after wave of Tottenham attacks were flying down their left wing ? NO ...
We all could see this, the TV commentators could see it, BUT DALGLISH COULD NOT !!!  What management is this??  NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
I dont care how many trophies he has won IN THE PAST, its NOW that matters and its decisions that are made NOW that win or lose games..
He needs to start making these correct decisions soon or Liverpool will not make the top 4 - as evidenced by yesterdays performance in which TH were clearly and by a long way the better team.

i hope suarez stays in england just to make a name for himself and liverpool but the way football is being played there i would think it will be tough, not in a sense of fisical tough but the abuse of the refs...long leave penarol.

  63. Hi Jamie,

Good to see that you're not getting involved in all the invective here.

Sad to say that we were beaten by a far better team on the day.  The ref was OK but no more than that.  I think that I heard he was the 'beachball' ref - I don't know if that's right but a judge once said to me that lawyers who appeared in front of him and gave him a hard time were always 'remembered'.  Perhaps the ref was just indulging in a little of the same; being fair to both sides (as he saw it) but just (almost imperceptibly) a little 'more fair' to Spurs as a bit of payback from that Sunderland game.

No complaints about the sending offs though - naive tackles for professionals!

    Regards.

  69. I'd take issue with Adams' first yellow - seemed to me he was being fouled and the ref was too intent on being hard and making swift decisions than thinking about whether or not to award yellows. Having said that, Spurs started well, scored a great goal but Liverpool could easily have equalised via the disallowed goal (inches in it) and the game could have changed. It was only 1-0 when Liverpool went down to 9 men and Adebayors second goal was deep into injury time. Thought it was a big mistake putting Skrtel at Right Back against Bale's pace and so it proved. So well done Spurs for a great performance but LFC fans shouldn't lose faith. As for diving, I think the worst dive of the day was Wilson ? when he fell over a daisy as he ran along the touchline - pure dive and the way the ref was going, should have been a booking.

However, Henderson was a thoroughly pointless buy and we could've got better for the money. Another 5 mil would've got Hazard. As for Carroll... He is utter crap and at £35mil any talk of "one for the future" is redundant.

Like I say, Kenny is the man but he made a string of errors today. Scrotal at RB? Carroll RM at one point!? No sign of Kuyt to give some work on the right? All mistakes.

Finally, living 5 mins from Anfield means fuck all.

  76. Enough with patience.. To lose 4 - 0 was really hard to swallow.. I was at a match gathering to see the game and I was totally mad seeing my beloved team destroyed spurs who only acquired Adebayor and Parker during the transfer window whilst us spend a ton of money on British talent.. During the match our midfield was easily bossed by them, we don't put enough pressure when then play the ball around. Skertel was even worse..I read other articles before the game saying that Kenny Daglish felt comfortable playing him on the right side and at the end of the game we saw what a tactical blunder that was.. Don't say I don't give Daglish a chance but what truly happens is Daglish were given the chance to win against our rival and he failed miserably. Saying spurs were the better team, so what? He put up the team to play against them, then he should know how to get a win. Or is this going to continue every time we lost a game? Saying that they were the better team? Bull crap.. Stop playing players out of position..and don't play Carragher anymore his is the reason why our back line is so deep even when u see the replay on Adebayor second goal, he was the last person to push up and got Adebayor on side..

Enough with this..I can't even imagine who hard is it for me to wake up and show my face to my friends knowing I'm the biggest fan of the club. I'm truly ashamed..please don't let me go through this again.. With Rafa we coundnt have lost 4-0. YNWa

  77. Its all rafa.s fault. he spent all the money and played zonal marking and rotated the squad and had a rant at fergie. but kenny the king is just awesome and when he takes over at Liverpool he will play football and buy players who will set the premier league on fire

after all he has won the league before and bought top players like Barnes and beardsley .j

He will concentrate on the league instead of Europe. He will attract the best British players instead of signing average players at way over the odds price .

  78. the fact u call it Football says alot, its that type of mentality that got charlie sent off, continue to play ur so called Football, which is y england continues to be successful on the world scene?????, while the rest of the world plays soccer~the beautiful game and teams win prestigious cups while u and england play Football, mind u NFL in USA and AFL in Australia r known as football, so continue playing Football and wining ur invisible cups.......

  79. 1) current manc team is similar to Rafa’s team (david silva & barry) as usual Americans cant match the arabs in salary

    2) liverpool is a big club and not just another british club,we need big
names or attractive players to attract worldwide supporters

    3) im sure manager like rafa will attract these type of players because
of reputation, KD unfortunately has left the game too long (only the
british players can remember him) so it will be difficult to attract
    these world class players

    ReplyDelete
  80. all good until you remember that Rafa actually spent more than double what Dalglish has spent.

And left the club in 7th place in the league...

    ReplyDelete
  81. Let's remember this simple fact - the brilliant, all knowing, tactical genius that was Rafa Benitez left our club in SEVENTH place!!!

  82. We played, got beat, dropped 3 points, time to move on. theses things happen in football. Its just one of those things. I will judge KD and the players he bought in May. if we get 4th then great, if we don't, we work out what went wrong, and start again and we keep doing that till we are back were we belong. We are a work in progress and there are going to be days like these. Support the team, the manager, and the club and don't moan, the time to have a moan will be May. Or the time to celebrate will be may, thats what being a fan is all about, support regardless of the situation, come the end of the season we the fans can give our verdict then.

You're not a Liverpool supporter ( so continue playing Football and wining ur invisible cups)!!!

Whomever you support get lost and worry about your own team! By the sounds of it I'd say you're a Dallas Cowboys fan. It's Jonny come latelys like you that are ruining the sport.

  89. And king kenny has spent almost 150million in 6months ....how long before he becomes a Kevin keegan

    ReplyDelete
  90. Xabi Alonso (cost £10.5m - sold £ 30m), Luis Garcia (cost: £6m - vital player on the road to Instabul and part of the deal for Torres), Fernando Torres (cost £20m - sold £ 50m), Peter Crouch (cost £7m - sold £ 11m), Pepe Reina (cost £6m - today value triple the money at least), Mohamed Sissoko (cost £5.6m - sold £ 9.5m), Daniel Agger (cost £5.8m - so unlucky but so talented as well), Craig Bellamy (cost £6m - sold £ 7,5m and now he is back for free), Fabio Aurelio (free), Dirk Kuyt (cost £9m - for me no prize is high enough for this player), Alvaro Arbeloa (cost £3m - sold £4m, Javier Mascherano (cost £18m - sold £ 22m), Yossi Benayoun (cost £5m - sold £7m), Lucas (cost: £6m - our best midfielder now and he is getting better and better), Martin Skrtel (cost £6m - young, strong and not right back!!!), David Ngog (cost £1.5m - sold £4m). All these are Rafa's transfers (you can check all this in Wikipedia) and seems that from Benitez's players LFC had big profits (and has until now). Of course RB made costly mistakes like Fernando Morientes (cost £6.3m - sold £ 3m), Ryan Babel (cost £11.5m - sold £6), Jermaine Pennant (cost £6.7m - gone as a free agent), Robbie Keane (cost £19m - sold £14m), Albert Riera (cost £8m - sold £6), Andrea Dossena (cost £7m - sold £4m) and Alberto Aquilani (cost £20m and he will leave not even for 1/2 of money), but the money that Liverpool lost from these failures, almost came back with Torres transfer to Chelsea (a clear £ 30m profit). So my friend Rafa didn't spend 250m as you say but gave as one CHL trophy, another CHL final, one FA Cup, and the only realistic chance to win EPL (season 2008 - 2009) in the last 20 years... Don't forget that players like Kelly, Spearing, Flanagan and Robinson, are Rafas era products and Shelvey or Wilson, signed by him as well! You, I and everyone of us must support strongly Kenny Dalglish, because he needs time, money and our patience to make our team great again. But you don't support King Kenny by blaming unfairly Rafa Benitez... YNWA

  91. There is two things there. The first is that dalglish actually started to go down the route of criticizing the ref, even if he stopped short. He waited for the ref in the tunnel and had a right go at him, but to be honest I think he had a look at the video at half time. Adam dragged down a player who was running away from him. That is always a yellow card, and knowing he was on a yellow card, he threw himself dangerously into a tackle with scott parker. He was jumping in, his foot was high, he planted a full set of studs on the side of parker's knee. It was a reckless tackle and could easily have been a straight red.

I think to be honest, the reason for him pulling back is a bit more complicated than him having too much class. He made himself look silly after his first game by criticizing the referee for sending off gerrard, even though it was as clear a straight red as you'll ever see. But last season when he started talking about referees, the papers were full of coverage saying "is king kenny starting to crack under the pressure" with the headlines making reference to dalglish's first departure from liverpool.

If he had tried to say that black was white, and tried to deny that his players hadn't done their level best to be sent off, then he would have been exposed to mockery again. king kenny losing it and crazily criticizing ref would have been the main story, and attracted attention to what was a truly disasterous performance. This response defused pressure and coverage, and allowed the focus to move to man utd beating chelsea.

that comment earlier about harry redknapp reading the sun made me spray coffee all over the keyboard. Liverpool fans may be wrong about a lot of things, but their consistent hatred for the sun is something that all football fans should learn from. What people no longer realize is that hillsborough could have happened to absolutely any football club, and that it should not be seen as just a liverpool thing. yes they were liverpool fans, and the hurt is going to be felt a lot stronger there, but primarily, they were football fans like any other, just going to a game, who were killed by systematic negligence.

The sun's attacks on the liverpool fans should be seen as attacks on football fans everywhere, and to see them using football as an advertising battering ram just makes my skin crawl.

  100. Mizzy, you don't have a clue about our club or our city or what we as Liverpudlians stand for.  I really wish that you Americans would stick to your own 'sports', because you all have such strong opinions, and know it all, but have zero knowledge about the game, which always makes your comments annoying for the rest of us.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Sorry Graeme, but your speculative comment 'another 5 mil would have got hazard' is laughable.  It never fails to amuse me when fans come out with authoritative remarks like that.  Do you seriously think that we didn't have a look at Eden Hazard? He may still come, but you have zero knowledge of the business side of our club, just admit it and stop pretending to be in the club's inner circle.

And you will eat your words on Hendo and Carroll. Based on your comments, you simply don't have the ability or knowledge to recognise talent at the top level. There's no shame in that, but please don't embarrass yourself bashing anymore of our players and claiming to know football better than KD, because you so clearly don't...

btw living in Liverpool means alot. It means he's a scouser and not a post 2005 glory hunter from god knows where, who thinks he should be coaching our team...
