Reports in Holland suggest the Liverpool are interested in Ajax central defender Jan Vertonghen. The club definitely needs a new centre-back, and judging by the following video, it looks like the Belgian is a quality player.
Check out the brilliant piece of skill at 1:42 :-)

Ok, this is the first time I have heard of him and as a CB, quite honestly he would put many strikers to shame...
ReplyDeleteHas pace, can defend and score. The complete defender but no more injury prone players please. we have had far to many of them over the years.
His wikipedia stats seem to suggest he's coming of the back of two solid seasons of football..
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be tarnishing him as an injury prone player just yet..
As an aside Agger is starting to grate on me once more. Among my favourite players, but his injury problems are so infuriating, especially considering the importance of stability in the centre back position.
Man, who listens to this kind of music that's in the video? Makes you wanna kill yourself..
ReplyDeleteHas pace, can defend and score. The complete defender....
ReplyDeleteRed4life my friend, How many of these superlatives can be used to describe Jamie Carragher? lol
I really wonder if you actually know anything about Jan Vertonghen, or just wrote this article on hear say. How is Jan Vertonghen injury prone? He hasn't had any long term injury issues at all throughout his career. Has played respectively 50, 49, 35 and 36 games in the last 4 seasons for Ajax. Yet you say 15 games a season on average? Next time don't write an article on a player you have actually no clue about.
ReplyDeleteBetter video on him:

Not all defenders have pace and can score so I do not know what you are trying to imply. One thing is for sure, Carra has been on of our finest defenders since breaking into the first team but obviously you are going to disagree with that. So what was the piont you were actually trying to make mrburt?
ReplyDeleteCarr 'HAS BEEN'....
ReplyDeleteYou said it. Say 'CARRA IS' and we can advance the disussion.
Go tell that to our manager, I am sure Kenny will agree with you?
ReplyDeleteKenny wears the same Carra tinted specs you do. When Kenny begins to practice what he preaches he will put head before heart and do hats best for LFC
ReplyDeleteAnd so are the days of our lives.
ReplyDeleteGrow some balls Kenny and drop Carra. loyalty to carra and gerrard is detrimental to the success of the club. Carragher at his peak was at best 6th choice centre back for England and that was over 5years ago. and now he is a liability just about every game. king Kenny could have spent the Henderson 20million on Cahill of bolton and played maxim rodriguez in the middle .
ReplyDeleteKenny will continue to lose support as long as he plays players on reputation or loyalty rather than merit
First time i have heared of him, but i will watch some of the games to make a good judgement of him. To be fair before we look at others to replace, I am sure we should be looking at what we have and trying to get the best out of them. There has been a lot of change around in the defence this season due to injury, hopefully we can get a sback 4 that start ot play a few games together so they can gel.
ReplyDeleteAston Villa are sixth and spent next to nothing in the summer having sold their best two players ...unbeaten in the league . got booed by the fans last nite having lost in the mickey mouse cup.....we have lost twice in the league having spent almost 150million and we cannot even criticise Kenny ....why
ReplyDeletesince 2007 apparently hes made 170 appearences. Not sure about injury prone at all
ReplyDeletewhere do you get 150 million from?
ReplyDeleteIt's only 5 games into the season - I'm sure if Carra makes any more mistakes then he'll be 'rested'. Even tonight, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteInjury prone? Are you joking? He's played 170 games in the past 4 years and is captain of Ajax.
ReplyDeleteYou're an idiot.
Good point about Villa. I don't think anyone is saying that KD can't be criticised. That's definitely not the stance of this site anyway. KD can and should be evaluated, just like everyone else, but given the improved form in the final third of last season, surely he deserves time? Last season, the 'fans' were calling for Roy Hodgson's head after two months in charge - it's ridiculous, and it will be even more of a disgrace if the same thing happens with KD this season.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, if there's something to be criticised about LFC, I will do it, and I think I've proved that over the years (!). KD is no exception.
After the Spurs defeat on Sunday, I could've written 10 posts about what went wrong. I just don't see the point though. It's only KD's first year, and occasional abberations are to be expected of a team in transition. Additionally, the defeat should be viewed in the context of all the good stuff that's going on at the club right now, chief of which is the restoration of the LFC way of doing things, both on and off the pitch. I'll take several more 4-0 defeats if it the LFC I grew up loving returns.
You're right, my mistake. I was looking at the wrong stats when I wrote the article. I've edited it now. Having said that, he has sustained 5 injuries in the last 4 seasons, which I would classify as kind of injury-prone.
ReplyDeleteThat's not injury prone at all. He played 50 games each season for the last 2 seasons! Minor injuries are very common, and certainly don't classify someone as injury prone.
ReplyDeleteVertonghen won't be leaving Ajax however. He's said a few days ago that he's finishing this season at Ajax.
