ROBBIE FOWLER on Fernando Torres: "He's playing like someone who has regrets"

Robbie Fowler believes Fernando Torres has regrets about leaving Liverpool for Chelsea, arguing that it's clear from the Spain International's body language that the wishes he'd stayed at Anfield.

Fowler, who currently plays for Muangthong United in Thailand, argued:

“I’ve heard people say that deep down Fernando wishes that he had stayed at Liverpool. Well I don’t think he hides his feelings that well.

"For me it’s obvious that Torres feels that he made the wrong decision to leave Liverpool for Chelsea. You can see it in his body-language.

“Torres is a top, top player and I am sure that he will eventually come good again and that Chelsea will reap the benefits of having one of the best strikers in the world.”

“But I am sure that he wishes now that he had given it another six months at Liverpool so that he could have worked with Kenny Dalglish"

“Fernando is playing like someone who has got regrets. He probably won’t admit it but I think he felt that the grass would be greener at Chelsea and he’s realised it isn’t.

“The fans loved Fernando and he loved them. Deep down I think he still does. I am sure with hindsight he would have stayed. A forward line of Torres, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll would be as good as anything in the Premier League.”

Suarez and Torres upfront? Like many fans, I would've loved to have seen that. One of the things missing from the team at the moment is a regular flow of goals, and Torres certainly provided that when he was at the club.

  1. Nice read.

Im sure your get a lot of people slagging nando off, perhaps rightly so.  But if we do remember it was a pretty crap time for liverpool, the two cowboys, Roy hodgson, we were a total mess.

Nando upset me too, but ill always appreciate how good he was, and part of me wishes he was still apart of the Kenny regime.

At the end of the day it was his mistake and his lack of faith which has cost him and he has to reap what he sows.  It looks like AVB will give him a chance at Chelsea but that cant be forever and then what for Nando??? Death in the italian league??? such a shame for such a good player.

  2. Spot on Robbie!! A few weeks ago, that's what i have been telling my friends. The body language of Fernando Torres clearly shows that he misses the club he supported as a kid. But i do feel whatever he said about LFC is just an excuse of showing to Chelsea that he is ready for a new challenge but he isn't ready. I'm sure he would be most welcome if he had another chance to come back to Anfield!!

  3. I too think Torres doesn't feel at home at Chelsea - IMO his mentality is closer to that of LFC. Although I can't agree with Fowler that it is clear for Torres his move was wrong - especially seeing the Spurs-LFC match.

  4. firstly, he was an atletico fan? and secondly he didnt want to stay at liverpool, look at his body language when he was there last season! for the first time since before last years world cup torres looks like he has got that hunger, yard of pace and superb touch back, a chelsea legend in the making!

  6. It would be great to see him back. He still has the ability. You never lose that

  7. At the time he thought he didn't want to stay at Liverpool.  He very quickly realised his mistake.

  8. haha, one bad match wouldn't make him not want to come back you thickle idiot

  9. What a complete pile of garbage based on what. He misses playing in a team that was underperforming. Had sold his supply line, pulled him out of rehabilitation early to break down again.

He's carries the world on his shoulders as everyone pretty much everyone outside of chelsea wants to see him fail.

At last chelsea have a manager who will put in place a supply line and people around him who will get the best out of the guy.

He will come good and he will compete for trophies. Suarez is quality but Carrol is the worlds most expensive living donkey!!

  11. The thought of a Torres-Suarez partnership makes me think we could have had the best partnership in the premiership, if only though!!

Wonder if Chelsea fancy a swap Carrol for Torres?? 1 can only wish!!

  12. After reading a comment above, i do wonder what type of players we would have if Benitez had been given 120 million from january onwards. 1 thing i think is definite is that torres wouldnt have left but i also feel we may never have had the pleasure of watching suarez. I think we would have signed Mata if Benitez was in charge who is genuinly world class.

    I miss Alonso too :(

General knee jerk reactions tho from some liverpool fans after the tottenham game. We have to remember they only battered us properly after we went down to 9 men.

1 thing i do think tho and i know Jaimie may pull me up because benitez made bad substitutions but i dont think benitez would have played with carrol on the wing and Dirk would have started to help Skrtel with Bale.

I love Kenny but it does slightly irratate me when he said last week Carra is in the team based on merrit coz hes still prob the best leader and defender we have despite his increasing age but Carrol is definitly not in on merrit and doesnt currently warrant a place in the team but he does play because he cost 35million.

Go back to 433, apart from the man city game last year we hav not been successful playing 2 up top

  13. you change your tune Jamie, there was a time that you said openly that you didnt want Suarez in Liverpool shirt because he was a cheat and if anyone defending him here, you would ban them from your site. and now you say
Suarez and Torres upfront? Like many fans, I would've loved to have seen thatRead more: http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2011/09/robbie-fowler-hes-playing-like-someone.html#ixzz1YaYG5Wyr

  15. huh?? he was doin the business for liverpool right up until his transfer - chelsea wish they had the torres of liverpool.

  16. Shouldn't even be properly responding to this childish crap; just gonna say if you've just seen 'one bad match' as our only problem since the start of the season, you either need glasses or need to replace them.

  18. Wrote a message a few weeks back suggesting a more positive approach on the site and to be honest I think some of your latest articles have been great. Nobody wants to read negative press but sometimes it's needed but your reporting and writing is top notch at the moment.

  19. If getting Torres back means having Benitez too, then forget about it! It's not personal - RB's management style and approach to football just doesn't gel with LFC.

  20. MoRed - I haven't changed my tune. I said if anyone defended his cheating, I would ban them from the site. I wrote an article a few weeks ago saying that I still think he's a cheat, but he's at Liverpool now so there's not much point in going on about it. If he cheats for Liverpool then I will of course highlight it.

  21. you said, your own word,
Suarez and torres? like many fans I would have loved to have seen them playing for liverpool together....
well, I must agree with that comment.

  24. Hear hear! Critical debate is back. From Wikipedia: "Critique is commonly understood as fault finding and negative judgement, but it can also involve merit recognition." This site often strayed toward the former, with negative judgement at the forefront. But since the return of Kenny and his more traditional Liverpool ways, the latter is also being embraced. Keep it up Jaimie.

  25. Totally agree, negative press sells, but its much nicer to read considered and balance views. Keep it up.

In the main though I dont agree with Robbies statement, even tho his is my favorite player of all time. As a football fan I want to see Nando doing well again, but I was quite pleased when he left, he seemed a bit sulky and I dont want to see that in a LFC shirt, and having a player injured that often is a luxury we couldnt afford at that time.

He wanted to win things, whether or not he regrets his move I think is too early to speculate on, but personally I doubt it, and no one could forsee how great FSG have been

Even with the Spurs spanking, I am a happy LFC fan again, and I also think that in years to come, Henderson is going to turn out to be an inspired signing ... just give him time and our support

  26. What a team we would have if Alonso and Torres were back home. Neither wanted to leave. But we could go on and re-inject youth in Sammy Hypia and his fellow Finn Yari Litmanen who was never given a real chance by Houllier.
    Ah ... if only!?

  27. That hunger, yard of pace and superb touch back." He hasn't even scored as many goals for chelsea as he has when he was under Kenny Dalglish. And you telling me he is a better player. Chelsea have to cut their losses while they still can. Funny thing is I think its all down to the team and not Torres. If Torres came back to Liverpool tommorow, everyone will see what Torres is truly capable of again. He had an unbelievable record at Anfield, and sometimes its the stadium that can make the difference. For instance look at Stoke, they have a smaller pitch, wind problems, more ball friction with the grass. I have a feeling he will score against Liverpool at Anfield.

  28. Now really. I don't see Rafa spending money on Henderson, Adam, or Carroll. If he was in charge I truly think he would have gone for players that are already top class like Aguero, Mata, Sanchez. "Quality" was his favourite word. Aquilani would have stayed. Torres probably would have stayed too. The only reason he messed up with Alonso is because he had to sell in order to get Barry. If he wasn't so cash stuck he would have bought both players. Which wouldn't be bad because Alonso would have been starting infront of Barry anyways. I don't care what anyone says. Rafa was never supported by the owners, all they did was make a good impression and gave him Torres. His management and style fitted Liverpool, there was always a fight in the team. Mascherano and Alonso. What a pairing. Kuyt, Reina, Torres, Agger + Johnson (minus the injuries), Skrytl. He was scapegoated by the American Owners, and you are one of those goats to believe that. He should never have been replaced by Roy Hodgson. But having said that, Im happy with Dalglish in charge. But the players he signed are not doing what he wants, and that's disappointing.

  29. People need to understand that Suarez is a true footballer. He works hard for his team. Just look at his performances for Liverpool, the man is a freak of nature. Playing for your country is like war, you have to have that passion and determination to do what has to be done whether people like it or not.

  30. Lets give Chelsea Carroll and get Torres back, he knows he made a mistake. He loved Liverpool and was a fool to go too soon, KK would sort him out!!!!! Torres, Suarez, Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi!!!! WOW!!!
