Adam sent off...Agger off injured...but COATES on for his debut

Things have just gone from bad to worse for Liverpool in the first half at Spurs...

Apart from being outplayed for the first 25 minutes, with Spurs quicker to every ball (and looking like they'll score every time they go forward), Charlie Adam has just been sent off for a second bookable offence, and Daniel Agger has gone off injured.

On the plus side though, Sebastian Coates is on for his debut. It's a baptism of fire for the Uruguayan, and it will be interesting to see how he reacts.

It's such a shame for Agger, but the truth is he's just not reliable, and never has been. As I highlighted in an article earlier in the week, Agger has spent 21 months injured since arriving at Liverpool; he's a great defender when on form but it's time for Liverpool to accept the reality and sell him.

The referee has been ridiculously card-happy, and has basically spoiled the game by handing out cards too early.

Second half fix: Skrtel moved to CB; Carra on the right; Carroll off for Kuyt; Downing on the left; Henderson and Lucas in the center; Kuyt on the right; Suarez upfront (Replaced by Bellamy if he's in danger of a red card).

  2. If Johnson was playing we'd be 3-0 down by now ;-)

  5. If Johnson was playing, Johnson would be able to track back much better. Why do you really rate Skrtel anyway? And this is not accusing you of GJ hate, I really don't see why.

  6. Even for a makeshift right-back, Skrtel was appalling. No composure in defence / midfield and as the game has gone on, Suarez has lost his head. The thing that most stands out though is how much faster Spurs are to everything.

  8. carroll + hendeson £55 million. Only someone out of the game for 20 years would be that stupid

  9. To be fair to Agger, that injury is not the same as a muscle pull or chronic injury. It was an impact injury and he could not have prevented it. It could have happened to anyone and it's just unfortunate it was him.

  10. Why Kuyt absent today for this game? I just don't want to see Andy Carrol in the starting line up again.

  11. What did Kuyt offer against Stoke to deserve to maintain his place in the team??

Anyway, it's a pity that the options are still so lacking in genuine quality with all the money that's been spent. Right now I'd stick Bellamy up front with Suarez and Gerrard, but even that isn't saying too much really.

It's a pity that the wake up call for the management has come after the transfer window has already closed and we've been left looking at the likes of Kuyt, Maxi & Spearing to turn come in and freshen up the team for us. +£100m was spent to replace two first team players (Torres & Meireles) yet the depth still isn't there for me.

Oh well, fingers crossed that this is just a blip (we're currently on track for 53 points which is pitiful and makes a mockery of all the hoopla being made a week ago!)
