Tottenham vs. Liverpool: 16 facts you've probably never heard before...

Liverpool face a tough games against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Given the club's aspirations this season, I think it's fair to say that it is a must-win game for Kenny Dalglish's team. Liverpool historically have a decent record against Spurs, but here are 16 fun facts about the fixture that you may not have heard before.

1. Liverpool have failed to win in 8 of the last 10 games at White Hart Lane, with the last 4 visits all ending in defeat.

2. Overall, Liverpool has failed to win 74% of Premier League away games against Spurs.

3. Liverpool averages approximately 1.5 goals a game against Spurs.

4. Prior to last season, Spurs had not completed a league double over Liverpool for 24 years (1986-87 season: Liverpool suffered two 1-0 defeats).

5. Conversely, Liverpool have done the league double over Spurs 6 times since the 86-87 season.

6. In his first spell in charge (1985-1991), Kenny Dalglish’s team played Spurs 13 times, winning 9, losing 3, and drawing once.

7. Liverpool have only ever played Spurs once in Europe - a UEFA Cup semi-final (over two legs) in Bill Shankly’s penultimate season. (Liverpool went on to win the competition that year).

8. It has been 37 years since a Liverpool player scored a hat-trick against Spurs (Phil Boersma – 1974)

9. Since 1994, 6 own goals have been scored for Spurs: 3 by Jamie Carragher, and 1 each by Martin Skrtel, John Barnes, and Neil Ruddock. (2 of the three Carra own goals led to defeats for Liverpool)

10. Only one Liverpool player has ever scored on his debut against Spurs (Djibril Cisse)

11. In 1972, Liverpool winger Steve Heighway scored against Spurs on his birthday, and helped the club win 2-1.

12. In 1914, Liverpool beat Spurs 7-2. 49 years later, Spurs exacted sweet revenge by beating Liverpool 7-2 at White Hart Lane (Roger Hunt got both of Liverpool's goals)

13. Liverpool hit 7 against Spurs again in 1978, with Kenny Dalglish bagging two of the goals.

14. Liverpool never lost a game against Spurs in which Ian Rush scored. During his Liverpool career, Rushie scored 13 goals over 10 games against Spurs (9 wins and 1 draw)

15. John Toshack scored 96 goals during his Liverpool career but he never managed to score against Spurs.

16. It took 76 years for Liverpool to finally meet Spurs in the FA Cup (1968).

Will Liverpool overturn the White Hart Lane curse tomorrow? Let's hope so!

  3. We need to have pace down both wings today, Downing down the left and Bellamy on the right. I hope Kelly is fit to play, do not like the idea of Skrtel against Bale and Flanagan does not have enough experience as yet. Carroll and Suarez upfront should do the trick.
