'The Boss' to Anfield? Liverpool make surprise move to sign 'brilliant' €50k-a-week star. Swap deal?

Liverpool are reportedly considering a surprise move for one of Crystal Palace's recent summer signings.

Prior to signing for Crystal Palace, French newspaper L'Equipe claimed that Marseille 'offered Liverpool the chance to sign Steve Mandanda, and although the French 'keeper is only in his first year at Selhurst Park, it appears that Jurgen Klopp remains interested in bringing him to Anfield. On Sunday, Telefoot claimed:

"According to our sources, Liverpool are interesting in recruiting Steve Mandanda this summer".

At Marseille, Mandanda - described this month by Marseille boss Michel as 'a leader' and 'the boss' in the dressing room - had superior primary stats to Simon Mignolet, but things have gone badly since arriving at Palace:

* Injured in November, and required surgery on a knee injury, which kept him on the sidelines for three months.

* Returned to training in February, but is yet to be included in one of Sam Allardyce's first-team squads.

* Prior to his injury: 17 goals conceded in 10 games (One every 47 mins). 1 clean sheet.

Mandanda's primary stats have regressed at Palace, but to be fair, ten games is not a statistically significant number of games to make a fair assessment.

Alan Pardew signed Mandanda last summer, and when the signing manager leaves, there's always a chance that the new boss might want something different in certain positions (just ask Christian Benteke!). This may be the case at Palace, and Klopp may feel he can get an international-class goalkeeper on the cheap.

Plus, if Palace want to keep Sakho, perhaps there's scope for some kind of swap deal?

A viable summer option?

* Reportedly on €50k-a-week. Described as 'brilliant' by James Tomkins.
