Deal Close: Liverpool determined to finally agree £30m transfer for 'exceptional' title winner

Liverpool are determined to seal a big money deal this summer for one of the club's fringe players.

Mamadou Sakho is on fire for Crystal Palace at the moment, but despite helping the Londoners to four wins in his first four games, Sakho still has 'no future at Anfield', and Liverpool are happy to sell to the highest bidder.

Well, according to the Liverpool Echo today, the highest bidder will have to pay through the nose:

"Liverpool are...demanding £30m for Mamadou Sakho. A number of clubs are monitoring Sakho’s situation, and Liverpool will...demand even more than the £20m they asked for in January".

Sakho - who won the league title with PSG - recently helped Palace keep three clean sheets in a row, something they haven't achieved for two-and-a-half years, yet but this clearly cuts no ice with Jurgen Klopp, who seems hellbent on getting him out of the club.

Klopp has spent the last year making Sakho look like a massive problem player by criticising him in public; kicking him off the summer tour; forcing him to train alone and/or with the U23s, and endlessly marginalising him from the first team squad.

Now, Liverpool expect a premium price for player who's been treated like a pariah by one of the world's top managers? You couldn't make it up. Klopp has sullied Sakho's reputation, and this will (IMO) impact on the Reds' ability to attract a big transfer fee.

Liverpool may be able to recoup the initial £20m outlay, but £30m+? Dream on.

^ Hailed by Gary Lineker as an 'exceptional defender'.
