Done Deal: After successful medical, Liverpool finally seal transfer for 'outstanding' €9m star

Liverpool have finally secured a transfer for one of Brendan Rodgers' underperforming signings.

Last week, the Liverpool Echo reported:

"Liverpool are on the brink of selling defender Tiago Ilori to Reading. A fee has been agreed and the Reds have granted him permission to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical".

Well, it appears that £9m-rated Ilori passed his medical with flying colours. According to a statement on Liverpool's official website:

"Tiago Ilori has completed a move to Reading. Everybody at the club wishes Tiago the best of luck in his future career".

At the beginning of the season, Klopp hailed Ilori as an 'outstanding player' with a 'great attitude', and then proceeded to basically ignore him for the next six months.

Clearly, Ilori wasn't 'outstanding' enough, and in my view, Klopp's disingenuous, Brendan Rodgers-esque 'praise' smacks of rank insincerity.

Ilori always retained the faith of the fanbase, though. A few months ago, I conducted a poll asking fans whether Liverpool should sell, and a whopping 84% of participants voted NO.

Unfortunately, Ilori's regular injury problems suggest that he's too physically weak to excel in the Premier League, and I doubt it will be much different in the Championship. That said, under a manager who believes in him, Ilori may excel, and it'll be interesting to see how he adapts over the next few months.
