Contact Made: Klopp offered big chance to seal transfer for 'exceptional' £20m star; Liverpool have rejected deal

Liverpool have reportedly rejected the chance to seal a deal for one of the club's fringe players.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

"Liverpool have rejected a loan bid from Southampton for Mamadou Sakho. The Saints enquired, but the Reds are only willing to sanction a permanent deal. He will be allowed to leave if a suitable offer...close to £20m is received".

In my view, Liverpool are destroying Sakho's career, and it's totally out of order. Alongside Klopp's disgraceful marginalisation, the Reds continue to deny Sakho the chance to leave by ridiculously demanding £20m for a player they've basically demonised since last summer.

Klopp has spent the last six months making Sakho look like a massive problem player, by criticising him in public; kicking him off the summer tour; forcing him to train alone and/or with the U23s, and marginalising him from the first team squad. Now, Liverpool expect a premium price for player who's been treated like a pariah, and hasn't played in nine months. You couldn't make it up.

If a January deal fails due to Liverpool's financial demands, Sakho will cost the Reds £80k-a-week until the next transfer window opens, and he'll be paid that ridiculous amount for sitting on the bench. Of course, Klopp can simply chisel off the giant chip on his shoulder at any time and utilise Sakho, but that's unlikely to happen. Clearly, even with constant injuries - and the ongoing absence of Joel Matip - Klopp would rather cut his nose off to spite his face.

On a related note: it's ironic that Liverpool endlessly sign Southampton players, but are unwilling to reciprocate and allow the Saints to sign on of LFC's players, even when he's unwanted :-D
