Transfer Update: Liverpool chase 'spectacular' €10m Argentina star who smashed club record for clean sheets

Liverpool continue to be linked with new goalkeepers, and with Timo Horn reportedly top of Jurgen Klopp's 'keeper wishlist, a new name has entered the fray as a possible replacement/competitor for Simon Mignolet.

According to daily Argentine sports newspaper Ole this week:

"Liverpool are interested in signing Geronimo Rulli. Jürgen Klopp wants the Argentina to compete with Simon Mignolet".

Some info about €10m-rated Rulli:

* Current contract expires: 2016

* Estudiantes: 30 goals conceded in 50 games (One every 150 mins). 26 clean sheets (52% of games)

* Real Sociedad: 73 goals conceded in 62 games (One every 74 mins). 21 clean sheets (34% of games)

* Mar 2015: Called up the Argentina squad for the first time.

* Mar 2016: Argentina boss Gerard Martino claimed: "Rulli will probably be the national team goalkeeper for the next ten years. Barring any strange happenings, that ought to be the case."

* 2013-14: Went 588 minutes without conceding a goal for Estudiantes, and broke the club's record in the process.

* 2013-14: Estudiantes coach Xavi Tamarit raved: "Rulli is spectacular. He has amazing reflexes, he’s good one-on-one, and has excellent timing. He also dominates with the ball at his feet and with his positioning".

Rulli is highly-rated, but his primary stats are no better than Mignolet's. In my view, Timo Horn is the best option. That said, it'd be great to have a player named 'Geronimo' in the squad ;-)
