Last week, reports in France claimed that Liverpool held talks with Monaco over the possibility of signing 20-year old winger Thomas Lemar, and new reports suggest that the Reds are now favourites to seal a deal for the ridiculously overpriced youngster.
According to TalkSport today:
"Liverpool are in pole position to lure Thomas Lemar away from Monaco. Lemar has been scouted regularly this season".
Some info about Lemar:
* Central attacking midfielder, who can also play on either wing. Current contract expires: 2020.
* Monaco: 10 goals/assists in 33 games (One every 210 mins). Nominated this year for Ligue One's 'Young Player of the Year' award.
* Feb 2016: Former Monaco defender Eric Di Meco: "He [Lemar] can play in any position bar centre-forward. He's good on the flank or behind the attacker, and he's a strong runner."
* Mar 2016: former team-mate Alaeddine Yahia raved: “His left foot is amazing – it’s like a hand – he puts the ball where he wants”.
* Sep 2015: Caen’s youth director Philippe Tranchant told France Football: "He [Lemar] is always giving the player in possession a solution. He senses the game ahead of the others, and in that regards, he is like [Andres] Iniesta”.
The problem is, Monaco have reportedy told Liverpool that Lemar will only be sold for £59m+, which is, quite frankly, laughable.
Whatever the reality, Liverpool should not (IMO) spend big bucks on unproven potential this summer; the teas needs two or three proven, experienced players to take things to the next level (and improve on what's already at the club); Lemar is massively inexperienced, and has achieved nothing in the game.
