'I want to go' - Angry €10m Reds target in scathing attack on club. Chance for LFC...?

Earlier this year, the agent of Lyon star Dejan Lovren confirmed that the Croatian defender consider leaving the club if he received a 'good offer'. Liverpool have been linked with Lovren several times over the last year, and reports in Spain and France today claim that the Reds are still watching the player.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool remain in the hunt for Lovren - who Lyon value at €10m - but face competition from a whole host of clubs, including Chelsea, Roma, Valencia, and Barcelona.

Liverpool reportedly made a €16m bid for the defender in May 2012, right around the time Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel were in high demand from other clubs.

In an explosive interview with Sportske Novosti in April, Lovren laid bare his frustration with Lyon over a variety of issues, including his 'anger' over the way the club handled his recent injury. He scathed:

"I'm very unhappy, and everything has gone downhill. I was angry at the club because they made me train with the [tendon] rupture. I should have been out of training 45 days.

"I'd be lying if I said I feel comfortable at Lyon. I've lost my passion and joy for training, and I never expected to experience that.

"Lyon to do appreciate me, and I want to go. I'll do my best when I get a chance and play, and then we'll sit down and see what happens next"

Lyon boss Remi Garde dropped Lovren from the squad for his outburst, and made clear his unhappiness with the Croatian's public criticism. He told ESPN:

"Dejan is a young player and he was tricked a little bit. Having said that, you can't go against the club and the institution. I've spoken to him about it, and I cannot sanction what he did."

Last week, Lovren's Agent Nikki Vuksan told Calciomercato:

"What I can confirm is that many clubs in Europe want him, and if someone wants to make an offer, we will talk to them. With the right offer, he will leave"

It certainly seems like Lovren is on the outs at Lyon, which provides Liverpool with a perfect opportunity to capitalise this summer.

Should the club go in for him...?

  1. From that highlights clip I would definitely say go for him. Good in the air, good tackler and good feet.

  2. I've said for a while that we need 2 CB (as have most people) as carragher is retiring, along with skrtel and Coates out of favour and on their way out of liverpool. We currently have agger, wisdom and make shift kelly as our options for next season. Lovren would make an ideal partner for agger IMO and I have mentioned this before. I still think we would need another relatively quality CB to add competition and rotation to the back line. Lovren and De vrij are my ideal pair to buy in the summer (€10mill and €8mill respectively). Wisdom to come in as 4th choice CB, Kelly to continue his role at RB for now. I wouldn't bother making LB a priority in the summer as Robinson and Johnson can cover that position.

Overall prioritys in the summer should be: 2 CB, 1 DM (cover for Lucas, unless we utilise Allen for that position), 1 AM and 1 forward (striker/winger). Along with incoming a should be a fair few outgoings, with downing, Carroll and skrtel amongst that list.

  3. I took a look at him a couple of years ago when we first started getting linked to him and liked what I saw.
I worry that he has regressed or plateaued, judging by the cooling of the buzz surrounding him.

  4. I know. Why don't you post stuff with deliberately obscure and exciting titles so that people will read it and increase your advertising revenues?
    Prick.
