Cha Cha Cha! LFC plan £15m bid for striker who broke Falcao's goal record...

Prior to joining Porto, Colombian striker Jackson Martinez claimed that Liverpool were following his progress, and insisted that a move to the Premier League was one of his top priorities. Since arriving at the Estádio do Dragão, Martinez - nicknamed 'Cha Cha Cha', has scored goals for fun, which has attracted the attention of several big club around Europe.

According to reports in Italy, Liverpool and Barcelona are tracking the €9m striker, who recently broke a club record (previously held by Radamel Falcao) by scoring 11 goals in 12 matches for Porto.

Liverpool were linked with Martinez many times over the January and Summer transfer windows, and it seems unlikely that Porto would sell the Colombian so soon.

Martinez is not the only South American player to be linked with club this year. Liverpool are also 'ready to move' on signing 26-year old attacking midfielder Luis Montes, who currently plays for Club León in the Mexican first division.

With Montes in top form, Club León has taken the Mexico's Primera División by storm this season, and after a string of great result, they're now in third place on 24 points, 9 points ahead of Pachuca, the club that allowed Montes to go out on loan.

Of the two, Martinez is clearly the more appealing option in a goalscoring sense, but if he was to leave, then the earliest a transfer would take place is the summer, which doesn't help Liverpool, who need a prolific striker in January.

  1. We need someone!
Apparently people are saying that Huntelaar is a done deal?

  2. The same was said for Dempsey, we should no rely on these rumours

  3. Cha Cha Cha sounds like a dance in Strictly Come Dancing
Brendan Rodgers hailed Liverpool as "outstanding" yesterda. "Our intensity and possession was relentless in the game," he said. "I thought we were brilliant, and deserved the three points."
Liverpool certainly dominated possession, but the overall performance was far from outstanding
Rodgers, however, does not seem to take overall performances into consideration. As long as his team has bossed possession, Rodgers is happy.
Remember, this is a man that said the following after Swansea were beaten 2-0 at Sunderland last season: "It is great for the public here at Sunderland to see us. They must have been wondering what this team everyone is talking about are all about, and now they have seen. We were wonderful."
This is also a man that explains his philosophy as this: "If you can dominate the game with the ball you have a 79% chance of winning a game of football. If you're better than the other team with the ball you've got an 8 out of 10 chance, nearly, of winning the game."
Well, 10 games into the Premier League season and Liverpool have not won eight or even seven of their games, but two.
In a way I admire Rodgers' eternal optimism but Rodgers is starting to embarrass himself with his constant claims that Liverpool are unlucky not to win every game they play in.

  4. If that is true, Suarez will have 25 goals and assists in the second part of the season!

  5. huntelaar would be good but why would he want to join a club and this is no exageration might not be even able to offer europa league next year

  7. Liverpool were strongly linked with him before Comolli got fired.
Just when Comolli and Kenny started learning their lessons after wasting millions. FSB brought in Rogers and the cycle started again. Rogers kick started his wasteful spending with Fabio Borini. Martinez, or Demba Ba would have been much cheaper and better choice than Borini.

Don't know when Liverpool's fortune will change.

  8. Are we regretting not signing Dempsey and Sigurdsson now????, hardly ripping it up at Spur's are they???

  9. This is true, good point.

I would like to see the Suarez and Huntelaar partnership reignited though.

  10. Schalke could be in cl 10 years in a row and wouldn't win it. When we come back, we will have a chance, and he knows it. Istanbull team was not that great, but this is Liverpool.
But at age of 29, I think he is more about wages now than about cl-he played in Ajax, Real, Milan...

    ReplyDelete
  11. I doubt that. Schalke have a shot at the title and are almost certain to go past the CL group stages, possibly even in first place. I have no idea which player would give that up to come here, at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  12. the top players want to play on the biggest stages his wages will not be a issue am sure hes well off he will be more motivated by glory and like you say hes 29 so if we did manage to qualify next season not this weve already blown that he would be 31 so if he did come to lfc he might not play in the champions league again big ask of any player

  13. no iam not am regreting not making good signings like you say if rodgers had had is way we would have more dead wood

    ReplyDelete
  14. worse than roy and look what happened to him and agree if we lose he comes up with some right bullshit he cannot hide behind the previous managers forever kd last season got fa cup final won a trophy rodgers has spent near 30million and the results have got worse hes had the same players as last season so we should be seeing something by now

  15. What was Brendon thinking of playing Suso, the lad wants too much time, he might get it in training when Brendon watches but he wont get it in the Prem, Shelvey is a class act.

  16. What does This is Liverpool have anything to do with people signing. Dont live in the past like most Liverpudlians
This is 2012/13 and thanks to FSG and mediocre manager called Rodgers Liverpool is now a mid table team.
What service will he get off Joe Back Pass Allen if he signs, none whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If I could break the bank for any EPL player at this present moment in time it would be Fellaini the man is unplayable and unstoppable but would he get the direct service he needs from players like back pass Allen, he covers so much ground from box to box

  18. We have been unlucky in quite a lot of games so far. If we had a proven striker other than Suarez things may be different. I believe in what BR is trying to do but he`s got to have the full support of our owners. The future does look good with the young players coming through but cant rely on the already thin team we have. We need quality signings from now and I am sure we will be back in the Champions League positions we desire. Also we need to get rid of the shite that still hangs around us,getting them off the wage bill may prove to be difficult.

    ReplyDelete
  19. see rodgers is already saying it could take more than is 3 year contract to turn things round heaven forbid

    ReplyDelete
  20. let me guess you want new owners to come in and buy instant success. also Brendan Rodgers ( it's his full name, not Rodgers ) is our manager, and one who understands the work needed at anfield, i suggest you look up the word SUPPORTers. also allen is a great little player, why knock him.

    ReplyDelete
  21. we were unlucky last year and won a cup and got to another final this year we are just poor apart from 2 10 min periods yesterday the game was dire the atmosphere at anfield is muted to say the least rodgers honeymoon is over 10 league games 2 wins thats not unlucky thats crap and if you took away the norwich game the league would make even more depressing reading

    ReplyDelete
  22. do you look at the tables we have lost more than w have won

    ReplyDelete
  23. His name is Rodgers thats what they call him on the terraces and in the pubs and what pray tell me has Joe Allen done to make him a great player. How is he a great player what attributes does he have to make him great, Xavi Iniesta Messi and Ronaldo are great players, but I dont put Allen in that category at all.

    ReplyDelete
  24. am glad someone thinks like me about Rodgers and Allen.
I said Rodgers was a bad appointment from day one and I have not changed my mind about him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. just reread post us and barcalona are after him now let me think if its true i wonder were he would want to go unless hes a diehard red and soon that wont be enought for players

    ReplyDelete
  26. yes but were the minority for now but if rodgers carrys on think we will be the majority seen a few posts starting to come on about allen his passing was woeful yesterday

    ReplyDelete
  27. At least he's better than Adam, Henderson and Downing combined!! Quit clutching at straws and living in the past. Liverpool is where it is not because of Rodgers and Allen!

    ReplyDelete
  28. We haven see the true extent of Borini yet you now saying that he is not that good.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why so picky and attentive over his full name? Hardly offensive to call him by his surname.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Would be nice but would that mean Suarez out wide then?

    ReplyDelete
  31. If the rumors are to be believed then Liverpool sounds like a kid with a terrible case of ADD (attention Deficit Disorder) since Liverpool it linked to a player and a buzz is generated about the possible signings and then ....nothing! Another even more attractive target becomes available and then the latter target becomes old news. Many players have been linked with Liverpool and we the fans have seen nothing materialize from all the hype. While the club is currently not dominating in Europa club play or in the domestic league it would seem that the area in which we do dominate is in that of speculation. Specifically about whom Brendan Rodgers will bring in to lead the attack alongside Suarez in the January window. From now till January will see us linked with every available striker who is affordable. We currently now linked with Klaas Jan Hunterlaar ( I hope this deal goes true).

    ReplyDelete
  32. I dont live in the past at all mate. Being better than Adam, Henderson and Downing combined doesnt make you a great player, makes him less mediocre than they are.
Liverpool will never achieve former glories with players like Allen and a manager like Rodgers. He is too full of his own bullshit

    ReplyDelete
  33. when i went to school i was never called by my first name by a teacher. He is picky because he hasnt anything constructive to say

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why LFC couldn't beat Porto to the punch, I have no idea - I remember Liverpool tracking the player about 9 months ago, but then decided to go with one of BR's players (Borini) for the same price. Now Martinez is worth double - can't we buy players from South America before they get to Europe and their price tags get inflated?

    ReplyDelete
  35. sigurdsson was another played hyped up by Rodgers to seem better than he actually was. Now you see him at a bigger club you see him for what he is mediocre.
Same with Dempsey, like Charlie Adam a big fish in a small pond, and a small fish in a big lake.
I am not one for plucking players who look good at small clubs because they usually dont hack it at bigger clubs.
Joe Backpass Allen a classic example he may fool you but he doesnt fool me.

  36. I'm guesstimating work permit issues is one possible factor, another is third party ownership, etc. Even Italian and Spanish clubs are subjected to limitations on the no. of non-EU players in their first team squad I think. Portuguese clubs don't have such restrictive regulations in getting players from South America and are willing to put up with third party owners (Moutinho (ok, not S.American but is part owned by third company, which probably made a deal with Spurs harder to make), Hulk, Falcao, etc). Benfica, Porto, etc, have loads of S. Americans in their first team squad.

'special talent'-based work permits are usually given to younger players and Martinez had hardly played for Columbia to qualify for a normal work permit at the time, which would have made it hard to get him straight from South America. Not impossible but hard.

Scored a lovely backheel goal against Sporting for Porto he did. Worth a watch.

  37. Suarez can't score goals???????????

    Career stats:

    Games played: 296
    Goals scored: 169
    Assists: 60

    Liverpool:

    Games played: 67
    Goals scored: 31

    Nuff said really!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. by your comment you imply that all allen does is pass the ball back and that its FSG's fault that we are midtable. My question is in what way is FSG responsible and how does joe allen only pass the ball back. Instead of Slating the team and owners get behind them like a true fan

    ReplyDelete
  39. You have to admit with the amount of assists Suarez has created if we had clinical finisher we'd be much higher up the table. In my opinion, the only Prem games we haven't really dominated are against Arsenal & Stoke. Brendan Rodgers has the right idea, FSG just haven't backed him properly in the transfer market.

  40. 10 Games played and 6 points of a champions league place. Bad decisions and poor luck has had it's impact on our league position at this time. i.e. Disallowed goal at Goodison. That would actual have put us within 4 points for those who aren't mathematically minded. One thing I'll say is that opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one. Alas I deal in facts.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would like to see Huntelaar join but if other premiership clubs are interested then he will go there as we will leave it too late again plus if Shalke are still in the Champions league would you join liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  42. We seem to be linked with everyone and Borini is a waste of money so i think he is under savage pressure to get it right this time also a winger is also on the agenda Why didn't give Assaidi a run sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If u actually check his stats his passed forward more then back n gerrard jas done more back passes!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I`m backing Rodgers, but that doesn`t mean im blind to his faults. He seems a master of spin. The whole we didn`t get a striker thing, I really don`t get. He got one, cost him 11mil and his name was Borini. He choose to spend his striker budget on him. That is his fault and not FSG.

FSG did though mess up with the fact Van Gaal has openly said he wanted the job, and they didn`t give it him. That is Van Gaal prob the greatest current manager of our time (judged on different leagues won, and without crazy cash). How did we not get him in??? That name alone would have got us the star players, dispite not being in CL

  45. i would love to see gary HOOPER and HUNTELAR both @liverpool
with all our possession we can score many goal with suarez along side them!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. I still want Sterling and Suso to have a look in games!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Porto sell for 9 million lol! They would want at least 20! we lost our chance!

    ReplyDelete
  48. we r just so stupid we was linked with him last summer n could of got him gor 7m .. now we can get him for 15m 6 months after .. how silly is that ???

    ReplyDelete
  49. well m8 its not going to be hard to climb up the table when were not far of bottom, lfc only had 2x ten min spells as well ,cut out your over optimisn and smell the coffee

    ReplyDelete
  50. We could have had him for about £7m last summer. The word from South America was that it was a done deal and that he was on his way to Liverpool.
It makes you wonder about FSG and their financial commitment to Liverpool. Their shortsightedness has cost us a good goalscorer and cost them the chance to have doubled their money!
Improving Anfield is the cheapest way forward ............. I'm very wary of our owners.

  51. the man has barely been in charge five minutes and the vulchers are already circling worst of all they claim to be fans of liverpool the reality is you will only be happy if you where inchrage yourself

    ReplyDelete
  52. the class act that missed 3 sitters that would have claimed 3 points

    ReplyDelete
  53. not really considering the amount they could have made on falcao but they don't really tend to hold teams hostage but anything in the range of 15-20mill is fair but he has to stay for atleast 2years to ensure that he is not just a flash in the pan

    ReplyDelete
  54. it's not really about where shalke are as he isn't signing a new contract anytime soon and he literally has months left so we could get him on the cheap but we may have to compensate no champions league by offering higher wages

    ReplyDelete
  55. borini has barely played and is only 21 looks decent but judgements like yours tend to destroy the confidence in players

    ReplyDelete
  56. don't no really but he was really poor against swansea but had the best game in a red shirt against anzhi and looks like a extremely talented can't wait for him to be given the chance in the league

    ReplyDelete
  57. his chance to play on the biggest stage has now come and gone i think the premier league and suarez will be enough to persuade him

    ReplyDelete
  58. 3 months into the new season and now we are medicore lol what is the world coming to you need patience or atleast evidence on how you give the guy 3 months before you past your judgement give the guy space to breath 1 season hasn't gone and we are judging him if people like you get you way we will soon become worse than chelsea chopping and changing managers every other day

    ReplyDelete
  59. let me guess when alsonso signed you must have been chatting rubbush about him as well on how medicore he was but as soon as his quality showed you must have been i backed him all along people like you should not watch football not going to even call you a supporter because you clealy do not support the team just full of critsism
