Daniel Sturridge vs. Divock Origi: Who should start against Southampton today?
In his column for the Liverpool Echo today, Reds legend John Aldridge insisted that Sturridge should start ahead of Origi today:
"Sturridge looked more likely to score than Origi [at Watford]. Origi is more match-fit but we all know what Sturridge can do".
Liverpool fans appear to agree with Aldo's assessment. I conducted a poll this week asking the Sturridge/Origi question, and a whopping 86% of participants voted for Sturridge.
The Reds have had five clear days of rest this week, and given the fact Sturridge played only 10 minutes against Watford, there's arguably no credible reason to leave him on the bench.
On a related note; Liverpool are on a run of four games without a win against Southampton (3 defeats, 1 draw), but Reds legend Mark Lawrenson is convinced that the Klopp's team will break the hoodoo today. predicting a 2-0 victory, Lawro told the BBC:
"Liverpool got a good win at Watford last time out, and they owe Southampton after they lost to them in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. I think they will get some revenge".
Failure to win will hand the initiative back to Manchester United, but a win will arguably secure Liverpool's place in the top four, and a seven-point gap will probably prove to be insurmountable. Fingers crossed.
* Sturridge: £40m-rated. Sescribed last week as 'unbelievable' by Slaven Bilic.
