Great News for Klopp: Boss paves the way for Liverpool to sign 'magnificent' £40m striker

Ex-Reds Brendan Rodgers has has confirmed that Celtic will probably be forced to sell Liverpool target Moussa Dembele.

Liverpool reportedly send scouts to watch Dembele in last month's Old Firm derby, and when asked on Saturday about the striker's future, Rodgers told The Scotsman:

“He [Dembele] needs another year of Champions League experience and and then it'll be time to fly. If the club get offered a ridiculous amount of money, you have to respect that. If there’s interest then we’ll talk about it"

Rodgers also reiterated his distaste for the way money negatively impacts football:

"I don’t like it. This is a big club and we should never have to sell anyone, but because of money, that is not the reality".

What Dembele needs, and what he wants are two totally different things. As Rodgers suggests, he should stay for at least another year to further his development, but the chances are that if a huge offer comes in this summer, Dembele - and Celtic - will probably be eager to seal a deal.

To his credit, Dembele is not allowing the constant speculation affect him. When asked in March about his future, he told reporters:

"It's easy not to get distracted. I'm a calm guy and I don't let this get in my head. I don't really listen to what is said about me".

This is a refreshing contrast to Julian Brandt's weak-minded mewling about how transfer speculation is 'annoying' and may lead to his performances 'suffering'. Clearly, Dembele has the right mentality: water off a duck's back, and just gets on with it.

According to Reds legend Jamie Carragher 'magnificent' Dembele - who has 39 goals/assists in 46 games - is worth £30m-£40m, and although that seems excessive, it's definitely not beyond the realm of possibility.

Dembele - like Jamie Vardy - is a realistic, viable, obtainable target, and with Brendan Rodgers in charge at Celtic, Liverpool should (in theory) have a slight advantage over other teams. Worth pursuing this summer?
