Liverpool continue to be linked with new left-backs, and Sean Kolasinac, Ryan Sessegnon, and Theo Hernandez currently on Jurgen Klopp's transfer radar, the latest name to enter the fray is Monaco full-back Benjamin Mendy.
According to The Express:
"Mendy's performances have attracted Man Utd, Liverpool and Man City...who are poised to fight for his signature".
Info about €35m-rated Mendy:
* 22-year old left-back, who can also played left midfield. Contract expires: 2021
* Monaco/Marseille: 134 apps (28 goals/assists).
* France: One appearance to date.
* Dec 2016: Suspended for 5 games after kicking Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso.
* Feb 2017: Rio Ferdinand claimed Mendy is 'like Cafu'.
* Mar 2017: Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim enthused: "Mendy is an excellent player. He is always asking how to improve. He listens a lot, and will make it to the top".
Anyone who's watched Monaco this season knows that Mendy is a great prospect, and his goals/assists return is superb for a full-back. However, his recent injury history is a concern:
* 4 separate injuries over the last 12 months (1x Cruciate Ligament; 1x hamstring; 2x muscle)
* 105 days on the sidelines (23 game missed)
Plus, according to former team-mate Pierrick Rakotoharisoa:
"He [Mendy] lacked a certain rigor, symbolized by always arriving late for training".
Forget it. If Mendy arrived late for training at Liverpool, Klopp would probably banish him to train alone; dump him in the U23s; totally ignore him for an entire season, and then farm him out on loan in a desperate bid to get him out of the club.
Not that I'm suggesting that Klopp is the type of manager who reacts in a grossly disproportionate and unfair manner to comparatively trivial infractions. Perish the thought!
