Liverpool reportedly remain interested in signing 'spectacular' Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but is there any possibility of the Reds bringing the German stopper to Anfield?
'Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly 'keen' to sign ter Stegen, but when asked recently if Liverpool have a chance of sealing a deal this summer, alleged La Liga insider Balague told Sky Sports:
"Absolutely none! Zero! He [ter Stegen] is making fewer mistakes now. He’s crucial to Barcelona".
Liverpool have been linked with £30m-rated ter Stegen several times in the past:
* Nov 2015: Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claimed that Klopp 'discussed' ter Stegen with Liverpool's 'leadership'.
* Nov 2015: Don Balon added: "Klopp wants Liverpool to sign ter Stegen on loan for two years, with an option to purchase".
* Jan 2016: The Telegraph claimed: "Liverpool had a £10m bid [for ter Stegen] rejected with Barcelona keen to hold out for closer to £20m".
* Feb 2016: The Mirror claimed that Liverpool were 'ready to sign' ter Stegen in the summer.
Is ter Stegen really that 'crucial' to Barcelona?
* This season, he's conceded 38 goals in 38 games (One every 90 mins), which is average compared to many other top 'keepers in Europe.
* As a comparison, with basically the same defence, Claudio Bravo conceded just 22 goals in 35 apps for Barca last season (One every 143 mins), and achieved more clean sheets (18 vs. 15)
Clearly, ter Stegen is eminently upgradable, and to be honest, I'm glad that Liverpool have 'zero' chance of signing him.
