Massive Transfer: Liverpool fighting to sign 'amazing' £56m powerhouse who stamped on Suarez. Klopp in contact already

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Atletico's Madrid's fringe players.

Central defence is arguably a priority position for Jurgen Klopp to strengthen this summer, and according to The Mirror this week:

"Manchester United and Liverpool are going head-to-head for Jose Gimenez. Jurgen Klopp has registered his interest".

Some info about Giminez:

* 22-year old centre-half, who can also play as a DM, and RB. Contract expires: 2018.

* Contract contains a £56m buyout clause.

* Atletico: 87 apps (4 goals/assists.

* Uruguay
: 30 apps (3 goals).

* 16 apps in the CL.

* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Excellent power, pace and positioning provides the basis of an exceptional talent. Dynamic and forceful, yet intelligent and refined. Blessed with an impeccable leap, rapid pace and physicality belying his years. Thrives in physical encounters, possessing the determination and skill to shackle to world’s most fearsome strikers".

* Jan 2015: Stamped on the back of Luis Suarez's heel, to which the Uruguayan delightfully responded: "I only pushed you, you son of a b****. Your mother’s a wh@&^".

* Aug 2016: On Diego Godin: "He's a role model for me. I have learned so much from him and now we have a good understanding playing together".

Yes please! Having watched Giminez play, he is (IMO) precisely the kind of young player Liverpool should target: tough, robust, no-nonsense, strong-minded, with good Champions League/international experience. Plus, if he has the confidence to hassle Luis Suarez, then it shows that he's fearless too.

The transfer fee may be prohibitive, though. There's probably no way Atletico will get the full £56m, but in today's market, £30m-£40m is a realistic expectation, and I can't see Klopp spending that much money on a defender with no experience of the Premier League.

* Oct 2015: Hailed by Diego Simeone for his 'amazing resilience'
