Deal Close? Liverpool reps sent to watch 'fantastic' £20m sensation; Klopp 'told to sign' him

Liverpool are once again being linked with one of the breakout stars of the current Premier League season.

In December, Liverpool were linked with a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, and according to The Telegraph today:

"Sunderland sources have told The Telegraph [that] Liverpool are scouting him [Jordan Pickford] regularly".

Reds legend Jamie Carragher is a fan of Pickford, and recently told Sky Sports:

"He [Pickford] is Sunderland’s most important player. If he keeps on going, he can get to the level of De Gea and Courtois. He’s had a fantastic season".

Some info about £20m-rated Pickford:

* Sunderland: 27 goals conceded in 19 games (One every 63 mins). 3 clean sheets.

* 2nd highest number of saves this season. Joint highest number of claims. Joint second highest number of successful punches.

* Nov 2016: David Moyes raved: "He [Pickford] has been excellent for us, and hopefully he will become England’s number one for the future. He has the attributes".

* Nov 2016: After Sunderland's victory over Bournemouth, BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas enthused: "He was absolutely sensational. When you’ve got a goalkeeper in this type of form it’s such an asset to David Moyes".

* Dec 2016: Ex-Red Chris Kirkland told BT Sport:

“I told Liverpool to sign Jordan Pickford. He will have all of the top clubs looking at him - not just in England, but in Europe as well. He could be one of the best in the world".

In my view, a move to Anfield is a retrograde step. Pickford is gaining valuable experience playing every week for Sunderland, and at the age of 22, it's extremely unlikely that he'll become Liverpool's number one straight away. As such, so where's the sense in disrupting a burgeoning career to warm the bench at Anfield?
