In February, numerous credible reports claimed that Liverpool tried to sign Julian Draxler and Mariano Diaz, and it now appears that Jurgen Klopp submitted an offer for a third player.
In January, Tutto Mercato reported that Juventus received from Liverpool a 'request for information' about 19-year old midfielder Francesco Cassata, and according to Il Bianco Nero on Tuesday:
"Liverpool offered Juventus €10m to sign Francesco Cassata, but Juve refused as the club wants to see how Cassata develops".
Some info about Cassata, described as 'excellent' on Juve's official website:
* 19-year old central midfielder, who can also play as a left-sided midfielder. Contract expires: 2018.
* Currently on loan at Ascoli, and loan agreement contains an option to buy.
* Ascoli: 3 goals/assists in 24 apps. No senior apps for Juve.
* Scouting Report: "Versatile, with excellent running and pressing skills. Good acceleration, and quality passing. Has held virtually every position in the middle of the field for Juve's B team".
There is one major red flag to consider: temperament. Since the beginning of the 2015-16 season, Cassata has picked up 30 yellow cards and 2 reds in 61 games, and with a similar record in the Premier League, he'd be perpetually suspended (!)
Clearly, there's work to be done, but to be honest, it'd make a nice change to have a player in the squad with a bit of fire and brimstone about him.
