Confirmed: 'Phenomenal' £30m Liverpool star missed training today; Klopp reveals 'great' news about injured duo

One day into Liverpool's mid-season jolly to La Manga, and one of the Liverpool's senior players has already missed training.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

"Daniel Sturridge...missed both the morning and afternoon training sessions today due to a virus. Sturridge was assessed by the Reds’ medical staff [who] hope he will be well enough to train later in the trip".

Sturridge missing training? What a shocker! Even when he's fit, he still manages to find a way to miss out on important fitness/conditioning sessions. Not that his absence will make much difference - with Liverpool out of all cup competitions, there are only 13 games left this season, and if Firmino remains fit, it's probable that he'll get the nod in every game. Sturridge - recently hailed by Steven Gerrard as a 'phenomenal goalscorer - faces the grim prospect of warming the bench for rest of the season, which may push him towards a summer exit.

On a related note, Klopp has provided a somewhat positive injury update on two of the players left behind at Melwood. Speaking to reporters today, he noted:

"Hopefully Dejan can come back to training when we come back on Sunday, that would be great. Same for Marko Grujic, who is close but not close enough to make the sessions with us".

Even if he return to full fitness, I doubt Grujic will feature much for the rest of the season.
