Great News for Liverpool: Boss confirms transfer for 'unbelievable' £40m attacker 'can' still 'happen'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been handed a possible boost in the pursuit of one of the Reds' top transfer targets.

Liverpool have been regularly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, and although he signed a new contract in January, the Liverpool Echo claimed this month that Klopp still plans to pursue the 'unbelievable' attacker.

Well, new reports suggest that there may be an unlikely window of opportunity for the Reds this summer. Speaking Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted that Dortmund may have to sell one or two of their attacking players. When asked this week about possible summer transfers, he explained:

“Especially in the offensive area, we tend to have too many players, so something can happen there".

Dortmund have an embarrassment of riches in the attacking department, including Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor, Marco Reus, Pierre Emerick Aubemeyang, Mario Gotze, Shinji Kagawa, Andre Schurrle, and Alexander Isak (another former Liverpool target), and when it comes to thinning that down, players like Gotze, Kagawa, and Aubemeyang (who admitted this month he wants to leave) are surely more likely to leave than £40m-rated Pulisic, who just signed a new 4-year contract.

That said, contracts mean nothing these days, and the football world is littered with examples of players who signed new contracts and then left their clubs less than a year later. Even with this in mind, there's still no compelling reason for Pulisic leave such a progressive, well-run club at his tender age.

* Sep 2016: Pulisic admitted that he's a 'big Man Utd fan' and 'loved watching Wayne Rooney'.
