Liverpool stalwart Lucas Leiva is deservedly reaping acclaim for his performance in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Spurs.
Lucas delivered a highly effective performance at the heart of Liverpool's defence, and after the game, Chelsea legend Graham Le Saux raved:
"He [Lucas] has had a fantastic game as a makeshift centre-half. He’s always come in and done well. He’s been an incredible servant"
Arsenal icon Lee Dixon added:
"I don’t watch all of Liverpool’s games, but I’ve never seen him [Lucas] have a bad game".
Well, Dixon obviously didn't watch the recent defeat to Wolves, or last week's 2-0 defeat at Hull City (!)
To be fair, though, Lucas has always been a reliable player for Liverpool, and there are rarely games where the Brazilian is off the pace for a full 90 minutes. Yes, Lucas makes mistakes sometimes, but the same applies to every player, including current fan-favourite Sadio Mane (Example: getting caught in possession in the build-up to Hull's 2nd goal).
Lucas's Spurs stats:
* Won more defensive aerial duels than anyone on the pitch (bar Ben Davies)
* More tackles, clearances, Interceptions, and blocks than any other LFC player (including dedicated centre-half Joel Matip)
* One of only 3 LFC players who didn't lose possession during the game.
* Rather surprisingly, didn't concede a single foul all game.
* Helped restrict Spurs to just two shots on target all game.
^ Jul 2016: Reportedly on £80k-a-week. Sep 2016: Hailed as an 'unbelievable player' by Cameron Brannagan'
