Confirmed: 'Fantastic' €50m attacker wanted by Klopp 'talked' to Wijnaldum about 'Liverpool' transfer

One of Liverpool's reported transfer targets has reacted to rumours of a potential move to Anfield.

In recent months, 'fantastic' Spartak Moscow attacker Quincy Promes has emerged as one of Liverpool's alleged top targets, and in December, the The Mirror claimed:

"Liverpool will step up their bid to land Quincy Promes in January. Jurgen Klopp is determined...and sees Promes as the perfect target"

Soon after, Giorgino Wijnaldum admitted that he wants the transfer to happen:

“Of course I want him [Promes] to come to Liverpool. He is a good player who can help the team and he knows how great Liverpool is”.

When asked this week about Liverpool's interest, however, Promes made it clear that he's not interested in a transfer:

“Yes, he [Wijnaldum] says he wants me at Liverpool, because he likes me as a player. I talked with him, of course [but] I never thought about other clubs".

This is probably a good thing. Liverpool got stung last year trying to sign Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk, so investing time and energy into trying to negotiate with a Russian club owner is probably an exercise in futility.

* According to Spartak Owner Leonid Fedun, Promes will cost '€40m-€50m'.
