Medical Passed: Liverpool very close to sealing transfer for 'unbelievable' £80k-a-week star. Done deal soon?

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is reportedly on the verge of sealing a move to Inter Milan.

Last Tuesday, The Independent reported:

"Inter have asked Liverpool if they would [let] Lucas leave on a short-term basis. Liverpool are prepared to let him [leave] on loan for the rest of the season".

Soon after reports in Italy claimed that Liverpool had agreed a loan deal with Inter. Now, according to Sky Sports Italia:

* Lucas has passed a medical with Inter, and is set to sign on loan for the rest of the season.

* The deal will contain a option to buy at the end of the season.

A few hours ago, Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato provided a new update on the proposed deal:

"Inter have already reached an agreement for Lucas, and the last thing remaining is the signature. Stefano Pioli is still thinking signing Luis Gustavo, but the deal for Lucas Leiva is the most advanced".

It sounds like the deal for Lucas could still fall through if Pioli can convince Gustavo to sign for the club. This may not be such a bad thing for the Brazilian - if he ends up staying, he could take home a Premier League winner's medal at the end of the season, and after almost 10-years at the club, that will be a crowning achievement of his Anfield career.

If Lucas leaves now, he'll miss out on that possibility.
