Deal Close? Liverpool reps fly out to sign 'extraordinary' €45m powerhouse who 'dreams' of transfer to the Prem

Is Jurgen Klopp finally coming around to the idea that Liverpool need a dedicated defensive midfielder?

New reports this week suggest that may be the case. According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola this week:

* Liverpool have sent 'officials' to Portugal to 'discuss a move for William Carvalho'.

* The Reds are 'in talks' with Sporting director Bruno de Carvalho about a possible deal.

Liverpool have been linked with the allegedly 'extraordinary' Carvalho several times over the years:

* Aug 2015: Tutto Mercato claimed: "Liverpool are favourites to sign William Carvalho...who could continue his career in England ".

* Sep 2015: Liverpool scouts reportedly flew to Portugal to watch Carvalho.

Carvalho - who has a €45m buyout clause in his contract - definitely wants a move, and he's confirmed this on two separate occasions over the last couple of seasons:

* Jan 2015: Carvalho reporters: "hope one day to play in the best leagues in the world. If I continue to do my job as I have done so, it will certainly come sooner or later."

* June 2015: Carvalho confirmed: “My dream is to play in England. I know some clubs are interested, but my agent Jorge [Mendes] is looking after it and I am relaxed.”

With Emre Can currently linked with a move to Juventus, Klopp may be planning for the German's possible departure, but is Carvalho the right option? After watching his ponderous, uninspiring performances for Portugal at Euro 2016, I'm not so sure, but to his credit, Klopp has a track record of improving players, so perhaps he'll push Carvalho to another level.
