Contact Made: Liverpool in talks to sign 'outstanding' £30m star who wants LFC transfer

Has Simon Mignolet done enough to secure his place as Liverpool's number-one goalkeeper for next season?

It doesn't look like it, and according to Italian newspaper TuttoSport:

* Liverpool are in talks with Man City about the possibility of signing on-loan goalkeeper Joe Hart.

* The Reds are interested in bringing Hart to Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool have been linked with Hart several times this season, and at the beginning of January, Sky Sports claimed:

"Man City 'keeper Joe Hart is keen on a return to the Premier League, and has told friends he would jump at the chance to join Liverpool"

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been campaigning hard for the Reds to sign Hart, and he's publicly supported the signing on three separate occasions. Last month, for example, Carra enthused:

"If somebody said to me, 'you can go and get Joe Hart,' I would do it. If I was Jurgen Klopp I would do it. If they get the chance to get a goalkeeper with Premier League titles, you do it."

Liverpool fans don't appear to be so enamoured by the prospect, though. I conducted a poll last month asking if Jurgen Klopp should sign £30m-rated Hart, and 59% of participating fans voted NO to the deal.

Urgh. In my view, Hart is not a significant upgrade on Mignolet, and like his rampantly underachieving (and mentally weak) England cronies, Hart is tainted by endless failure on the international stage (with his mistakes playing a big part in Engerland's ignominious exit from Euro 2016).

In my view, Hart is unlikely to get get any better, so signing him is arguably a retrograde step. Loris Karius has potential, but even if Klopp wants to bringing in an experienced number-one ahead of him, there are better options out there.

For the love of God, no more overrated, underperforming British international players.

* Described by Brendan Rodgers as an 'outstanding' goalkeeper. Reportedly on £120k-a-week
