Amid Liverpool's current downward spiral, one of the club's key players has reiterated his desire to win trophies at Anfield.
Speaking to reporters ahead of tonight's crunch clash with Chelsea, Brazilian maestro Philippe Coutinho admitted that the Wolves defeat was 'hugely disappointing' and 'very hard to take', but insisted he still sees a bright future ahead:
“I signed a new contract and there was a message. I am happy to sign. The manager is a winner, and everyone believes in him".
Specifically on tonight's game, Coutinho added:
“We have to lift ourselves for Chelsea, that is very important. We have another opportunity straight away to bounce back, and it is a good opportunity, a big game against Chelsea. That is it".
To arrest the current slump, Liverpool's senior midfielders/attackers - i.e. Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Henderson, and Wijnaldum - need to step up and start making a difference again:
* Lallana: has scored just one goal in the last nine games, and his barren run has coincided with Liverpool's poor run. As usual, when the club really needs him, Lallana goes missing.
* Hendo: May be playing a more withdrawn role this season, but 1 goal in 24 games this season? Not good enough really.
* Wijnaldum: 1 goal/1 assist in his last 12 games, which also isn't good enough.
* Firmino: 3 goals/0 assists in the last 15 games.
* Coutinho: Since returning from injury, Coutinho has struggled to impose himself, though he at least has a valid excuse.
The point is that over the last 10-12 games, Liverpool's big players have failed to show up, and the team has suffered. Will that change tonight?
* Coutinho: £60m-rated. Hailed as 'amazing' by Joel Matip.
