Replace Sturridge? Liverpool now favourites to sign 'magnificent' 17-goal striker

Liverpool are reportedly among the favourites to sign one the SPL's top strikers.

Last week, Sky Sports claimed that the Reds are planning a January 'offer' for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, and according to new reports over the weekend:

* Liverpool and Arsenal are 'leading the chase' to sign Dembele.

* Man City are also interested in the 20-year old striker, who will reportedly cost £20m.

Dembele was linked with Liverpool back in July, but he ultimately ended up signing for ex-Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

Dembele has hit the ground running at Celtic, and with 17 goals/3 assists in 30 games so far this season (one every 107 minutes), it's obvious why he is coveted by a number of clubs.

Reds legend Jamie Carragher is a fan, and in a recent column for the Daily Mail, he described the youngster as 'magnificent', and enthused:

"Brendan Rodgers has unearthed a gem. Celtic are going to struggle to keep him but if they do eventually sell him, then it is going to be for a fee 20 or 30 times more than their initial outlay".

According to Rodgers, though, Dembele is going nowhere in January. Speaking to TalkSport on Friday, Liverpool's ex-boss insisted:

“No, I don’t think it will be January. Moussa doesn’t need to go...because he’s playing for a big club in front of 60,000 fans a week.”

That may be true, but money talks, and as transfer for Virgil Van Dijk and Victor Wanyama show, if the money is right, Celtic will sell.

A possible replacement for Daniel Sturridge?
