Deal Close? Liverpool determined to sign 'priceless' €20m striker in January. 'Offers' confirmed already

With the January transfer window imminent, Liverpool continue to be linked with one of Serie A's most 'priceless' strikers.

According to Sky Sports this week:

"Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel [and] Jurgen Klopp wants to bring the Frenchman to Anfield in the January transfer window".

Last month, Defrel's agent confirmed Liverpool are 'watching' the striker, and when asked last week about a possible transfer, Sassuolo director Giovanni CarnevaliCarnevali told reporters:

"He [Defrel] is very well-liked by foreign clubs. There have been offers from the Premier League".

Could one of these offers be from Liverpool? Given Jurgen Klopp's confirmed interest, it's definitely possible, and with a lack of depth in the striker department, the Reds arguably need reinforcements in that area.

€20m-rated Defrel can play as a striker or a winger (left or right), so given his versatility, it's easy to see why Klopp might be interested.

Defrel's creative return is average at best, though:

* Cesena/Sassuolo: 57 goals/assists in 166 apps (Goal every 373 mins. G/A every 203 mins). This season: 14 goals/assists in 23 games (One every 120 mins).

If Klopp is looking for a potential replacement for Daniel Sturridge, the Defrel clearly isn't the solution, especially with a pitiful ratio of one goal every 373 minutes. That said, the Frenchman is currently playing with comparatively inferior players, and with an array of top-level players at Anfield (plus a top manager), it's possible his output may improve.

A viable January solution?
