Rangers legend Kris Boyd has urged one of Liverpool's most prolific attackers to quit the club ASAP.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Boyd - who won six trophies with Rangers and was top scorer in the SPL four times - insisted:
"Sturridge's time is up at Liverpool. He’s going to have to move on to find regular football. He’s a fantastic striker, but Origi has come in and not let Liverpool down, even though he also has injury issues".
As regular visitors will know, I'm a massive fan of 'exceptional' Sturridge, but I don't allow bias to get in the way of reality, and the question right now is simply this: will Liverpool miss Sturridge if he leaves in January?
In my view, the answer is...not so much. The team is banging in goals left, right, and centre this season, and 40 goals in the Prem already (none of which have come from Sturridge) starkly illustrates that the team can survive without him.
With stepping up in his absence, Sturridge will probably remain a bit-part player for the rest of the season, and I doubt he'll be happy with that, especially if it means (potentially) losing his place in the England squad.
Last month, The Mirror claimed that 'clubs have been made aware that Sturridge is not wanted by Klopp', and The Express further claiming:
"Sturridge earns £120,000 a week on Merseyside, and the Reds want £28m for the wantaway forward".
Jurgen Klopp later refuted these reports, but if a club comes in with a silly offer during the upcoming transfer window, I have absolutely no doubt that Liverpool will consider it.
