Deals Close? Jurgen Klopp drops massive Liverpool 'transfer' hint and confirms he's 'looking' to sign players

Will Liverpool sign any new players during the January transfer window?

When asked today about his January transfer plans, Klopp hinted that he may have to bolster the attacking side of the squad. He told reporters:

"If you see our bench yesterday, we had experience in defence, but not much experience in offense. We have open eyes, but the winter transfer market is the most difficult one. We’re always looking".

With Mane away for most of January, and Sturridge and Coutinho on the sidelines, this is arguably a no-brainer. Origi is in a good moment, but what if he he gets injured too? In attacking areas, there's very little strength in depth (especially out wide), and relying on Academy grads to fill the gaps isn't going to cut it.

That said, there is one ready-made attacking solution for Klopp to consider: Wijnaldum. He excelled last season as a left-sided attacking player, and it surely makes sense to move him into that position over the Christmas period. With Stewart, and Lucas in the squad, Liverpool have good cover in central midfield, but Sheyi Ojo aside, there are no senior players with experience of playing out wide.

As the West Ham draw showed, Firmino is not a great option out wide, and his stats from wide positions are poor (4 goals/assists in 14 apps). The question is, who should Liverpool target?

I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Klopp will go after a player like Shane Long, who has been linked with Liverpool in the past. Long is a bit-part player for Southampton this season, and with his running, pressing, strength, and stamina, he is an archetypal Klopp player. Watch this space.
