Klopp Confirms: 'Brilliant' £100k-a-week Liverpool star is 'out' of Stoke game; he missed 'training'

Will Joel Matip he back for Tuesday's Premier League clash with Stoke City?

Judging by Jurgen Klopp's latest injury update, it looks like the 'brilliant' German defender will be missing once again. When asked today about Matip, Klopp told reporters:

“He [has been] out of training for a few days already, and as long as we have other players in training all the time, we will choose them. You have to accept how it is...and that makes it really difficult".

Judging by training photos over the last week, Lovren, Klavan, and Lucas have been 'training all the time', so that almost certainly means that two of those three will get the nod over Matip.

Even if Matip is fit for the Stoke game, it's arguably unfair (and unwarranted) to dump Ragnar Klavan, who has been extremely solid in Matip's absence. The proof is in the pudding: with Klavan in the team, Liverpool have two clean sheets in a row, and three clean sheets in the Estonian's last three starts.

Matip is an excellent signing, but Klavan's form means there's no need to rush him back, especially since his current injury (ankle) seems prone to regular reoccurrence.

* Matip: Reportedly on £100k-a-week
