Deal Close: Liverpool finally agree transfer for 'unbelievable' £80k-a-week star; medical today; done deal soon?

Liverpool are reportedly very close to allowing one of the club's senior players to leave Anfield.

Over the last two years, Lucas Leiva has been constantly linked with a transfer, and on Tuesday, The Independent claimed:

"Inter have asked Liverpool if they would [let] Lucas leave on a short-term basis. Liverpool are prepared to let him [leave] on loan for the rest of the season".

According to reports in Italy today:

* Liverpool and Inter Milan have agreed a loan deal for Lucas Leiva, which will contain an option to make the move permanent.

* Lucas is set to undergo a medical at Inter Milan ahead of a loan to the end of the season.

Lucas will benefit from a move, but only if he plays regularly, and according to Reds legend Steve Nicol, the Brazilian will struggle to be a regular starter. Speaking to ESPN last night, he mused:

"Lucas is a bit part player, and at Inter it’ll be the same. He needs to go somewhere where he'll start".

Lucas will be competing against the likes of Medel, Banega, Kondogbia, and Brozovic, but at least two of those players (Kondogbia and Brozovic) are heavily linked with transfers, so the competition may ease somewhat come the end of the January transfer window.

Lucas is Liverpool's longest serving player, and the last remnant of Rafa Benitez's tenure at Anfield.

It's the end of an era...
