Anfield Alert: 76% of Liverpool fans insists Coutinho is better than 'magnificent' £82m attacker

With Coutinho and Firmino in the squad, Liverpool are blessed with the talents of two of Brazil's best attacking players, but is the better of the two?

Last month, Adam Lallana hailed: Firmino as 'one of the best players in the league', but is he better than his compatriot, Philippe Coutinho?

Liverpool fans don't seem to think so. I conducted a site poll recently asking that question, and the results were emphatic:

* 76% of participating fans voted for Coutinho over Firmino.

With 12 goals/assists in 17 games, Firmino - Hailed last month as 'magnificent' by Phil Thompson - is doing a great job this season, but his momentum has stalled over the last three games, and it's now 450 minutes (7.5 hours) without a goal or assist.

Firmino's barren spell has coincided with Coutinho's absence, but the presence in the team of Divock Origi is obviously the main reason why the Brazilian is struggling.

Origi has usurped Firmino as Liverpool's number 9, and with 5 goals in 5 games, it's hard to argue with that decision.

That said, at the time of Coutinho's injury, Firmino had 12 goals/assists in 12 games from the centre-forward position (or 'false 9', whatever you want to call it), and Klopp's tinkering with his position has caused Firmino to hit a brick wall.

When Mane heads to the AFCON, Klopp will probably go with a front three of Coutinho, Firmino, and Origi, but what is the best way to deploy those three to maximise attacking effectiveness?

* Firmino: LFC contract contains an £82m buyout clause.
