'The Battleship' to Anfield? Liverpool want 'outstanding' £25m powerhouse who's 'incredibly difficult' to play against

Despite the growing solidity of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip, Jurgen Klopp is once again looking to the Bundesliga for potential defensive recruits.

According to The Mirror:

"Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a central defender in January, and imposing Bayer Leverkusen centre-half Jonathan Tah is on his radar".

Liverpool were last linked with Tah in June, when Sportbild reported:

"Tah will stay at Bayer Leverkusen next season, but Chelsea and Liverpool have already made enquiries about signing him".

Some info about £25m-rated Tah:

* 20-year old centre-half, who can also play at right-back. Current contract expires: 2020. 60 games for Leverkusen so far, including 45 last season.

* Nicknamed 'The Battleship' on account of his strong physique and towering height (6'4).

* Jun 2016: Called up to Germany's Euro 2016 squad to replace injured defender Antonio Rudiger.

* Jun 2016: On his football influences: "Jerome Boateng is one of the best defenders in the world and a great guy. He's a true role model".

* May 2016: Leverkusen boss Roger Schmidt's assessment: “The consistency he [Tah] has shown throughout this season, playing at a high level, is outstanding.”

* May 2016: Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling raved: “He [Tah] has a body like a bull. It is incredibly difficult to play against him.”

As a Klopp signing, Joel Matip's place in the team is obviously safe, but Klopp has shown his ruthless streak with Sakho, and the same thing could conceivably happen with Lovren.

Liverpool have continually been linked with centre-halves this season, so the burning question is this: Is Klopp looking for a replacement for Sakho, or is he considering pairing Matip with a different centre-half?
