Transfer Alert: Klopp wants 'spectacular' £29m attacker who'd 'like to play for Liverpool'. Swap deal?

Liverpool are once again being linked with one of the club's most persistent transfer targets.

No season is complete without a link to Turkish attacker Arda Turan, and according to Corriere Dello Sport over the weekend:

"Liverpool are interested in Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan, and Philippe Coutinho could be included in the negotiations as part of a possible swap deal".

Turan has a long transfer history with LFC (take a deep breath!)

* Apr 2009: Rafa Benitez reportedly made a €10m move.

* Dec 2009: Turan told reporters: "I most want to play at Liverpool because of the culture of the club".

* Mar 2010: Turan reiterated his Anfield preference: "I am a Liverpool supporter. I would like to play for Liverpool".

* Oct 2012: Nuri Sahin posted a picture on his Twitter account of Turan in a Liverpool shirt.

* Oct 2012: Liverpool sent an 'observer' to watch Turan in Turkey's World Cup qualifier with Romania.

* Mar 2013: Reports in Spain claimed that the Reds were lining up a €20m summer bid.

* Aug 2013: ESPN claimed both Liverpool and Arsenal were 'interested'.

* Jan 2014: The Liverpool Echo reported: "Brendan Rodgers [is] pondering a move for Arda Turan".

* Apr 2014: When asked if he is Liverpool fan, Turan told Four-Four-Two magazine: "I have a soft-spot for Liverpool, especially given their history".

* Jul 2014:Turkish newspaper Sabah Spor claimed that Liverpool 'accelerated efforts' to sign Turan.

* Feb 2015: Tutto Mercato claimed that Liverpool were back on Turan's trail.

* Mar 2015: Tutto Mercato further claimed that Liverpool 'were willing to pay Turan's £30m release clause'.

* Jun 2016: Spanish newspaper AS claimed that Turan is 'desperate' to quit Barca.

Turan is still struggling to hold down a regular starting place at Barca, and he's been on the bench for the last three games, including both prestige CL games against Manchester City. The Turk is basically a back-up for Messi, and when Barca's main front three are fit, he won't get a look in.

With Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, and Mane at the club, Turan would experience the same fierce competition at Liverpool, but I'd argue he'd have more of a chance of nailing down a regular starting place.

If Turan is actually available, is he a viable transfer target for Liverpool?

* Cost Barca £29m. Hailed by Luis Enrique as 'spectacular'
