Reds legend John Barnes has Jurgen Klopp to sign a replacement for one of Liverpool's most consistent players.
Speaking to the Daily Express this week, Barnes explained:
"Liverpool need to go and get a left-back. James Milner has done well, but if we think if we are going to win it, then we need to get a left-back."
Barnes is not the only ex-player to feel this way. Last week, ex-Man United star Paul Parker claimed:
"Liverpool's downfall is in defence, with left-back the main problem. As good as James Milner has been, his inclusion means they lack balance in attack and can’t utilise the space in wide areas".
Parker's view mirrors that of Reds legend Steve Nicol, who recently insisted that Milner is a weak link:
“Milner has been adequate. Eventually, he’s going to get found out against a wide man with pace and trickery. He hasn’t come up against anybody like that yet.”
Milner may not be a dedicated, experienced left-back, but he's adapted to the position well, and the proof is in the pudding. With Milner at left-back:
* Liverpool are unbeaten in 9 out of 10 games (7 wins, 2 draws, and one defeat)
* The Reds have won 6 of the last 7 games in which Milner has started.
* The team has conceded only 7 goals in Milner's last 9 starts.
Obviously, Milner is not the long-term solution, but he's doing stellar job so far.
* Milner: €17m-rated (CIES Football Observatory)
