New reports this week suggest that Liverpool could sign a long-running transfer target on the cheap.
Last week, reports in Portugal claimed that Liverpool are considering a January move for 26-year old Herrera, and now, according to portuguese newspaper A Bola:
* Liverpool are ready to sign Herrera in a cut-price deal at the end of the season..
* Porto are willing to sell if the club receives a £20m offer, which is a 50% reduction on Herrera's £40m buyout clause.
Some info about Herrera, Porto's current 'Player of the Year':
* 26-year old central midfielder. Current contract expires in 2019. Nicknamed 'El Zorro'.
* Porto: 20 goals/22 assists (44) in 130 games (One every 217 mins). This season: 4 goals/assists in 15 games.
* Jun 2014: Sky Sports Scouting Report: "Combative, all-action midfielder; box to box; not afraid to put his foot in. Good all-rounder, with skill and who can pass".
* Dec 2015: Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio enthused: "Hector Herrera is a fantastic player who can get up to the level of Schweinsteiger".
* Feb 2016: Herrera told ESPN: "I think I'm like Riquelme in the way I play. With his class, tranquility, and vision, for me, he is the best".
Herrera's goal/assist ratio isn't that impressive, but there are plus points:
* No injuries for his entire career to date.
* Experienced international midfielder entering the prime of his career.
* Has captained Porto and Mexico, which suggests leadership ability.
£20m: a no-brainer?
