Transfer Update: Liverpool handed massive chance to seal January deal for 'exceptional' £20m powerhouse

Mamadou Sakho reportedly wants out of Anfield, and it looks like he may have an escape route back to Ligue One.

On Wednesday, The Mirror claimed:

"Sakho is finally ready to leave Liverpool after accepting he has no future at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp. Sakho knows he must leave in January to resurrect his career".

According to multiple reports in France this week:

* Lille are planning a January move for Sakho.

* The club's owner-elect, Gerard Lopez is working behind the scenes to bring in new players.

Sakho rejected a summer loan move to Stoke City, and he was perfectly within his rights to do so.

If, however, Sakho is now resigned to leaving, Lille may be a more palatable option, though the French club is currently hovering perilously close to the relegation zone, which may make him think twice (!)

That said, if £20m-rated Sakho goes to a relegation-threatened club, he has the opportunity to truly redeem himself by helping the club avoid disaster, for which he'd almost certainly be warmly received by Lille fans, and the French press.

In some ways, a move to Lille means that Sakho will back at square one (career-wise), but he's young enough to rebuild his career, and earn another move to a big club.

To be clear, though: Sakho^ is under no obligation to leave, and he should not (IMO) be subject to criticism if he ultimately decides to stay and fight for his place.
