'New Menez' to Anfield? Boss hints at Liverpool 'offer' for 'important' €15m striker. Replace Sturridge?

Liverpool are currently linked with a move for Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel, and it looks like the Reds may have already submitted an offer.

Last month, Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claimed:

"Jurgen Klopp has sent scouts to watch Grégoire Defrel, who is contracted until June 2020".

When asked this week about interest from Napoli and Liverpool, Sassuolo's general manager, John Carnevali, insisted:

“Defrel is an important player who has so many offers, but we will not sell anyone. The project [at Sassuolo] is strong".

Carnevali's confidence is admirable, but money talks, and if a club comes in with a big money offer, it'll be hard to refuse. Some info about €15m-rated Defrel:

* Left-footed centre-forward, who can also play on either wing.

* Cesena/Sassuolo: 54 goals/assists in 156 apps (Goal every 357 mins. G/A every 198 mins). This season: 11 goals/assists in 11 games (One every 82 mins).

* Feb 2016: On his dribbling skills: "It's one of my best features. We French, many of us have this same characteristic."

* Nicknamed the 'New Menez' due to his similarity in playing style to Jeremy Menez.

* On his loan spell at Foggia: "I was morally destroyed, and I thought about giving up, but Cesena gave me back my desire to play football".

Hmmm. A speedy, left-footed striker - is Jurgen Klopp looking for a cut-price replacement for Daniel Sturridge? If so, Defrel clearly isn't the solution, especially with a pitiful ratio of one goal every 357 minutes.
