Anfield Update: 'Fantastic' £20m Liverpool misfit attacked by fans after poor performance. Sell ASAP?

Things go from bad to worse for Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic.

Markovic is currently on a season-long loan at Sporting Lisbon, and according to the Liverpool Echo:

"Markovic was booed by Sporting Lisbon supporters during [Tuesday's] Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Cries of discontent were heard around [the stadium] as Markovic departed after an unimpressive display".

Markovic has contributed 2 goals in 8 games for Sporting so far, which is predictably average, and continues the Serb's seemingly endless paucity in front of goal.

Last month, ex-Red Neil Mellor suggested that Markovic will find it 'difficult to develop at Sporting Lisbon', and on current evidence, that appears to be the case.

Did Jurgen Klopp make a mistake sending him on loan? I conducted a poll recently asking fans if Klopp should've kept Markovic in the squad this season:

* 54% of participating fans voted in favour of Markovic staying put..

I voted YES to keeping Markovic. I'm not his biggest fan, but Liverpool are short of wingers (especially wingers with pace), and when Mane leaves for the African Cup of Nations in January, there's no real like-for-like replacement. Sheyi Ojo is the only other dedicated winger in the first-team squad, but he his is even more inexperienced than Markovic, and doesn't have the same level of blistering pace.

It would've been interesting to see if Klopp could get something out of Markovic, but sending him out on loan suggests that he doesn't rate him (and probably means he'll be dumped if/when Liverpool can recover the bulk of his £20m transfer fee)

^ Hailed as 'fantastic' by Jordan Henderson last season.
