Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho is reportedly keen to sign for Barcelona. Pardon me whilst I choke with shock.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport:
"Coutinho would like to play for Barcelona. His agents sounded out the possibility last year, but Barça ruled out any deal due to the price. Barca know the Coutinho's preferences and in the future, he will fit in at Camp Nou".
Coutinho to Barcelona is the worst-kept secret in football, and in my view, it's absolutely inevitable that the Brazilian will end up in Spain. Indeed, if - despite the presence of Klopp - Coutinho's agent 'sounded out' Barca last year, then it's clear that Coutinho is very keen to quit the club.
I suspect that Liverpool are already resigned to losing Coutinho, which is probably why the club are trying to tie him down to a new contract.
Signing a new deal will go a long way to ensure that the Reds get a transfer fee commensurate with the Brazilian's age, talent, and future potential, and after being fleeced on the Luis Suarez deal (£65m is a bargain), Liverpool won't want to lose out on Coutinho.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are willing to sell Coutinho for £70m, which is (IMO) a more than fair price.
Can Jurgen Klopp convince 'amazing' Coutinho to stay at Anfield? I doubt it. Barcelona is a magnet for the world's best South American players (including Coutinho's idol, Ronaldinho), and the chance to play alongside Neymar, Messi (whilst he's still playing) and Suarez will be too irresistible to refuse.
Coutinho will also know that moving to Barcelona will instantly raise his profile, and (possibly) solidify his position in the Brazil national team. Plus...TROPHIES, and lots of them (!)
