Tiago Ilori is the proverbial forgotten man at Anfield, but rather surprisingly, it seems that Jurgen Klopp actually rates the £9m-rated defender.
Ilori rarely makes the match-day squad, and whenever the transfer window is open, he always seems to be on the verge being sold and/or farmed out on loan.
However, in an interview on Monday, Klopp heaped praise on Ilori, which suggests he sees a future for him at Anfield. Channeling his inner-Rodgers on Monday, he told LFC's official website:
"Tiago Ilori is an outstanding player...who is really doing well [for the U23s]. They’re all full of praise for his attitude".
At least Klopp now knows that Ilori exists. After arriving at Liverpool last year, the German admitted:
"Tiago Ilori. When I first came here I didn’t know he was a Liverpool player to be honest".
Some fans may find this endearing, but I personally found it concerning. Seriously, how is it possible for a potential Liverpool manager to be unaware of one of the club's player? But I digress...
Does Ilori - who admitted last season that he remains desperate to 'play for Liverpool' - have a future at Anfield? Who knows, but Liverpool fans still seem to have a lot of faith in him.
A couple of months ago, I conducted a poll asking fans whether LFC should sell, and a whopping 84% of participants voted NO. That's an emphatic vote of confidence in Ilori, but I don't see him staying at Anfield in the long-term.
Perhaps Klopp will select him for tonight's Cup clash with Derby?
