Time to Leave? Klopp insists £20m star is 'important' for Liverpool but admits he doesn't 'know' if he'll play regularly

After toiling away in the U23s, Danny Ings finally got some first-team game time last night, but predictably (and disappointingly), Jurgen Klopp played him out of position.

Ings will be hoping for more game over the next few months, but is he likely to get it?

Klopp played Ings out wide against Derby, and when asked after the game about the possibility of regular game time for the striker, Klopp told reporters:

"I don't know, we'll see what will happen. He's on a really good way and everybody can see this. He's still an important player for us".

Playing strikers out wide is counter-productive, and in Ings' case, it's a total waste of time. Like Sturridge, Ings is not a wide player, so what's the point of playing him there?

He made little attacking impact on the game (no shots, key passes, successful crosses etc), and although he'll be happy to play, it won't do his confidence any good to played out position.

Ings' cameo appearance will be good for his fitness, but I can't see how he's going to get much game time as a striker during the rest of the season, especially with Sturridge, Origi, and Firmino ahead of him in the pecking order.

In my view, Ings should push for a Premier League loan deal during the second half of the season, which will allow him to get regular game time in his favoured position.

* Described over the weekend as 'wonderful' by Klopp. LFC rejected bids 'in excess of £20m' over the summer'.
