Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge just can't catch a break. After being basically marginalised and misused by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, it looks like Sam Allardyce is also set to leave him on the sidelines for England's upcoming World Cup qualifier with Slovakia.
According to the BBC today:
"John Stones, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana will replace Chris Smalling, Dele Alli and Daniel Sturridge".
On one level, Sturridge's omission is hardly surprising. Last week, Allardyce confirmed that his selection policy is based on players 'regularly' playing for their club sides, and this isn't happening for Sturridge under Klopp's management.
Indeed, Klopp has granted Sturridge just 67 minutes of game time so far this season, including subjecting him to an insulting 3-minute cameo against Spurs.
In any event, the inclusion of Adam Lallana in his first starting line-up (and 7 other players who started the embarrassing Euro 2016 defeat against Iceland) just shows that Allardyce is the antithesis of the progressive, forward-thinking manager England need.
As the saying goes: 'Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!'.
^ Sturridge: £30m-rated. Described as 'amazing' by Lucas Leiva.
