Liverpool MegaDeal: Klopp wants to sign £40m record-breaker to replace 'brilliant' LFC misfit

Liverpool continue to be linked with a summer move for £40m-rated Southampton attacker Sadio Mane, and new reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp is willing to sacrifice one of the club's youngsters in a bid to seal the deal.

Last week, The Guardian claimed:

"Jürgen Klopp is in the market for a forward who suits his high-intensity pressing game [and] Liverpool are considering a move for Sadio Mané".

Today, the Liverpool Echo reports:

"Liverpool are using Jordon Ibe as bait to land Sadio Mane [and] are hoping to convince the South Coast club to sell".

Using Ibe^ as 'bait' to sign 'fantastic' Mane is like using Andy Carroll as 'bait' to sign Luis Suarez from Barcelona, i.e. unrealistic, and a non-starter.

I have a much better solution: offer Adam Lallana in part-exchange OR offer a straight swap with Lallana and Joe Allen.

Mane's stats for Southampton:

* 25 goals/14 assists in 75 games (Goal every 215 mins. G/A every goal/assist every 138 mins).

* This Season: 15 goals/9 assists in 43 games (Goel every goal every 207 mins. G/A every 135 mins.

* May 2015: Scored a Premier League hat-trick in 2 minutes and 56 seconds, and broke Robbie Fowler's long-standing record in the process.

Mane's stats are good, but they're not £40m good, and for that price, Liverpool should be able to find an even more prolific attacker. On the other hand, the Saints are in turmoil after losing Ronaldo Koeman, so now is probably the right time to try and pick the bones out of their squad.

*Another* Southampton player, though? Change the transfer record already.

^ Apr 2016: Hailed by Jurgen Klopp as 'brilliant'.
